Description of the walk

Departure from Chaux Town Hall. There are parking spaces near the church, located next to the town hall.

The route is marked with a yellow disc.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, turn left onto Rue Saint Martin and cross the Savoureuse river via the "Arromanche" bridge. There is an interesting information board here. Continue straight ahead, cross Rue Sous le Bois and enter the forest via a wide forest path.

(1) Turn left just after the hunter's cabin. Continue until you reach the Étang Colin sign.

(2) Turn right at the sign and walk around Étang Colin. The landscape is magnificent, with a beautiful view of the Vosges peaks. It is just as beautiful in summer, with its lovely colours in autumn and snow-covered Vosges in winter: a magnificent landscape. After walking around the lake, turn left and return to the crossroads with the sign.

(2) Continue west (right) on the forest path. At the edge of the forest, cross Rue Sous le Bois and enter Chaux via Rue de la Vaivre. On the right, you can see the reservoirs that control the flooding of the Savoureuse. Cross the Savoureuse.

(3) Just after the bridge, turn right onto Rue du Petit Chemin, which becomes a pretty footpath. Cross the canal via the footbridge.

(4) Cross Grande Rue carefully. Turn left and continue along the pavement along the street until you reach the second crossroads.

(5) Turn right onto Rue de l'Égalité and follow it without reaching the railway line.

(6) Turn right before the railway line and follow the gravel path alongside the cycle path. At the end, continue along the street. Follow it to the bend at the end.

(7) Turn left onto Rue de Bellevue and cross the railway line, which is now disused. Turn right in front of Bellevue onto the path that climbs into the forest.

(8) At the crossroads, you can take a short detour to pay your respects at the "Charnier de Bellevue" memorial. Turn left, following the signs, walk along the stadium, and continue straight ahead at the bend in the road until you reach the T-junction.

(9) Turn right, then left after about a hundred metres. Admire the landscape with its ponds and, in the distance, the fish farm and the village of Lachapelle-sous-Chaux. Pass the cemetery, then cross the railway line at the level crossing and immediately take the path on the right to the end.

(10) Turn left and head straight towards the town hall, the starting point (S/E).
