Park in front of the Château du Saussay, following the local signs.
N.B. Between (S/E) and point 3, not all the paths taken are shown on the IGN map, but they are shown on the OSM map.
(S/E) Take the wide driveway opposite the château entrance. Cross the Allée du Château (that's its name) and turn left, continuing uphill. Shortly afterwards, first turn right then left and head north-west.
(1) At the end of the climb, turn right at a 90° angle onto a small path. After about 20 metres, turn right again and pass in front of an engraved rock (green sign on a tree). Continue climbing, ignoring all the paths on the left. Pass a concrete tank on the left and then begin the descent. At the edge of the woods, you will come to a triangular square (war memorial).
(2) Take Rue Varache on the right. Cross Rue du Général de Gaulle and follow it to the right for about 20 metres. Just before the pedestrian crossing, turn left onto a path between two houses. Cross a wooded area. Back in a housing estate, turn right onto a wide path and pass under the D191.
(3) About 50 metres after the tunnel exit, turn left and follow the yellow markings. Walk along the D191 on your left. Turn right at the allotments and follow the signs for "Les Roches du Père la Musique". At the first fork, turn left. At the second fork, turn left again and walk along the edge of the woods for about 50 metres.
(4) Then turn right to enter the woods and begin the climb up "Roches du Père la Musique". At the end of the climb, turn left and follow the path that winds through the undergrowth.
(5) At a three-way junction (tree marked with a fluorescent yellow dot), turn left (east).
(6) At the crossroads, follow the yellow markings to the right. At the junction at the edge of the forest, take the path opposite (yellow markings), slightly to the right (south). Walk along the edge of the woods on your right and the field on your left. Further on, turn right then left, following the path that remains at the edge.
(7) At the T-junction, turn right and enter the woods, continuing to follow the yellow markings. At the next junction (elevation 135), go straight ahead (ignore the signpost on the left). Immediately ignore a path on the right and continue west. Descend slightly into the woods and pass to the left of a sandpit. Leave the woods and descend between the fields.
(8) At the crossroads, turn right. Go straight ahead (west-northwest). Cross the D191 with caution (no protected crossing) and follow the small road opposite. Cross the railway line at the level crossing.
(9) Immediately turn right onto Rue des Saussaies. Continue straight ahead and walk along the left-hand side of a pond lined with sheds.
(10) At the fork, keep right. Walk along the railway line on your right. Further on, cross the railway line again at a level crossing. Then turn left and follow a small road.
(11) At the intersection (ruins of an old chapel on the left), turn right and walk along the wall surrounding the grounds of Saussay Castle. This will take you back to the starting point (S/E).
