Circular in the Touyre Valley from Montferrier to La Peyregade

A short hike in the Touyre Valley, starting from Monferrier, passing in front of the entrance to an old mine, and returning via the hamlet of La Peyregade. There are no difficulties or steep slopes. It can sometimes be muddy due to the proximity of the stream.

Description of the walk

Parking is available at the Montferrier tennis courts.

(S/E) Take Rue Labarousse, heading west. At the end of the housing estate, continue on the path that goes straight ahead and joins a road.

(1) Follow it to the left until you reach the hamlet of Martinat.

(2) Turn left onto the path that climbs south, then quickly turns right, heading south-west. You will come to a crossroads.

(3) Take the path opposite and continue to a fork.

(4) Continue right into the Cachalou woods and arrive at the Touyre River.

(5) Turn left and follow the river to reach the road that climbs to La Peyregade.

(6) Leave the road, do not continue towards the village, but take the path opposite, in the bend, heading south-west. Continue until you reach a fork.

(7) Turn completely right to return to La Peyregade.

(8) At the entrance to the hamlet, turn left, then right to return to the village from above. Cross this pretty village with its stone houses. Descend towards the bottom of Peyrade at the bend in the road you passed earlier.

(6) Retrace your steps in the opposite direction. You will come back to the River Touyre and the fork in the road you passed on the way there.

(5) Cross the river, continue straight ahead, heading north, to follow the river on the left and join a road.

(9) Follow it to the right until you reach a path on the right.

(10) Leave the road leading to Les Bordettes, taking this path on the right and crossing the river again, which will take you back to the hamlet of Martinat.

(2) Take the same path back in the opposite direction to return to the car park (S/E).

A very pleasant walk on a hot day, as it’s very shady. Make sure you have the route on your smartphone, as there are a few tricky bits between (3) and (5). The village of Lapeyregarde is nothing out of the ordinary. Note that there are picnic tables and benches at (6) and (10).
