Eyliac Circular Route

A pleasant walk with few roads, fairly gentle climbs, charming, shaded paths and three castles.

Description of the walk

Start from the village of Eyliac. Car park next to the church. Signpost showing local walks. Public toilets. Yellow markings.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the D6, passing close to the church. At the stop sign, turn right following the markings, then, a few metres further on, turn left near the castle. The path, which goes uphill and then downhill, joins a road (D6E).

(1) Turn right. Continue with care to the next junction and turn left onto Chemin de la Chaloupie.

(2) Follow this path, which goes round the castle to the right, and continue until you reach a path branching off to the left.

(3) Leave the track by taking this path on the left. At the hamlet of La Battue, follow the road to the right and arrive at the D6E junction.

(4) Take a path on the right a few metres after the Stop sign and continue along this path through the woods.

(5) Leave the main track and turn left after a small walnut grove. Turn left again a little further on. When you reach the road, turn left and head down to the main road, leaving the Raffinie alternative route on your left.

(6) At the Stop sign, turn right onto the B-road, then leave it after about fifty metres by turning left twice onto a path running parallel to the road. Then, before reaching a field, turn right onto the path that climbs and runs alongside a fence. At the junction with a larger path, go straight ahead and follow the path along the meadow.

(7) Join a dirt track and head uphill to the Stop sign. Cross the D6 with care, continue straight on towards “Le Puy” and head for the hamlet.

(8) Opposite the castle entrance, turn right onto a path between a fig tree and an unoccupied house (marker is hard to see).

(9) At the next crossroads, leave the road to Saint-Crépin d'Auberoche on your right and turn left towards Eyliac.

(10) At the road, turn right then, immediately left, onto a wide track. Continue along the tarmac road to Eyliac.

(11) At the stop sign by the cemetery, continue straight ahead, then turn left after the football pitch and head for the car park in the village of Eyliac (S/E).

The yellow markings at the start indicate the shortcut, not the app
Both are equally interesting
Avoid in strong sunshine – some sections are completely exposed
Very pleasant scenery

A lovely route with varied scenery and gentle hills. However, there was a lot of mud between checkpoints 5 and 6. But given the time of year, this is only a minor inconvenience.

I haven't been hiking yet because I'm looking after my parents.
It’s just a plan for the future – I might go hiking with my little girls in the Dordogne.
