Description of the walk

The start is at the end of the car park at the village hall in Saint-Michel-en-Brenne, Place Saint-Cyran.
There you will find signposts for the FFRandonnée hiking trails and two Brenne cycle routes, as well as the start of route no. 60, initiated by the Brenne Regional Nature Park, “Saint-Cyran-en-Brenne”, which we will follow at the start (yellow markings).

(S/E) With your back to the village hall, turn right onto the old Impasse de Rulcrot, then left onto Rue du Rulcrot.

(1) Cross the D6 and take a path that runs alongside the boundary wall of Saint-Cyran Abbey (yellow and red markings of the BrenneGRP®® ). Cross a courtyard where a few houses stand, then emerge onto Rue de l’Abbaye, which you follow to the right for 20 metres. Reach Allée du Château, which leads to the abbey (on the right). Turn left, then follow the D14 to the right as far as the bridge over the Claise.

(2) Retrace your steps to go down and see the wash house, then head back up to the D14 and turn right onto Rue du Lavoir, then left onto Rue Fernand Poitevin, to cross a small housing estate.
Turn right onto the D6c and follow it to the Moulin du Bois.

(3) Turn left onto a farm track, then continue slightly to the left at the next junction until you reach the entrance to Château du Blizon.

(4) Cross the D6 with care and follow the tree-lined path opposite. As the path continues through woodland, keep to the centre of the track and follow it to the access road for the hamlet of La Terraillerie, a wide, carriage-accessible track, which you should follow to the left.

(5) At the next crossroads, turn right and carefully cross the D43 to continue straight on along the small road leading to La Berjaterie. At the farm, continue straight on along a grassy track until you reach the D44.

(6) Follow it carefully for 300 m to the right (ignore the yellow markings for route no. 60). Turn left onto the path leading to the Étang des Essarts observatory. Continue straight on towards the north-east until you reach the D6a, which you should follow to the right for 30 m.

(7) Turn left onto a small path which first leads to a car park and then forms a discovery route through the Terres de Picadon (information panel). The route ends by crossing a small meadow where a few sheep may be grazing. Once past the last gate, turn right to return.

(7) Then rejoin the D6a to the right, heading north-west, and follow it carefully as far as Saint-Michel-en-Brenne.

(8) Turn right onto the D6, then, 100 m further on, left towards Saint-Michel Church.

(9) Retrace your steps along the edge of the cemetery, then turn right and cross a footbridge at the edge of the sports ground. Walk along the canal, then turn right at the end of the ground.

(10) After a few dozen metres, take a footbridge on the left and enter the town hall grounds. Head towards the town hall, then turn left onto the access road to return to the D6, which you should follow to the right.

(1) Turn left onto Rue du Rulcrot, then right onto the old Impasse de Rulcrot to return to the starting point (S/E).

Notes

No water points.
Make sure you wear good walking shoes: 3 km of roads at the start, paths that may be damp (or even flooded!) afterwards, and 3 km of roads to finish...

Follow route no. 60 of the Brenne Regional Nature Park up to point (6). To complete the full route, simply follow the D44 to the left, which takes you straight back to the starting point. The route is then 11.5 km long, and you can reach the Étang de la Sous observatory about 1 km from point (6).

Hello,
No, I didn’t follow it, because the route didn’t go where I wanted to go,
so I mapped it out myself, but it gives me some ideas anyway...
