The Blizon ponds

This is a figure-of-eight route starting from the hamlet of Le Blizon, along a wide path through the Brenne ponds. A pleasant walk, partly shaded and dotted with viewing points.

Description of the walk

Park in the Blizon car park, in the commune of Rosnay.

(S/E) On leaving the car park, turn right towards the hamlet of Blizon and head towards it.

(1) Turn immediately left onto the “Blizon path”, which is also the BrenneGRP® marked in red and yellow. Head towards the hamlet of Coutant (a beautiful property on the left).

(2) Shortly afterwards, join the path but leave it immediately to turn left. Walk alongside the Etang des Épinettes.
Continue straight on until you reach a crossroads separating the Gorgeat and Buret ponds.

(3) Continue left on the yellow-markedPR® trail until you reach the point separating the Buret pond on the right and an unnamed pond on the left.

(4) Walk along the private track on your right and follow the markings. Continue straight on and cross a small footbridge separating the Perculeux and Ralé ponds. Stay on the path to reach a tarmac road not far from the hamlet of Le Maupas.

(5) Turn left and stay on the road (this section isn’t particularly pleasant).
When you reach the hamlet of La Mailleterie, take a small path on the right. About 300m further on, turn left and then immediately right. Continue straight on until you reach the Etang Massé.

(6) Take the small path on the right towards the Etang Massé observatory. Return to thePR® trail, turn right and head back to the hamlet of Blizon.

(1) Head straight ahead onto the road, stay on it and cross the hamlet.
Continue straight on along the road almost to the car park just before the hamlet of Fourcault.

(7) Take the yellow-marked path on the right. Continue on to reach Étang Bénisme and its observatory.

(8) Continue along the grassy path, skirting Étang Bâtard to reach a track that forms part of the BrenneGRP ®.

(9) Turn right onto it and follow it straight on to reach Le Blizon.

(1) Take the road on the left to return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Worth a visit

There are several viewing points overlooking the ponds, which can extend the duration of the walk during the bird migration season.

It’s called a review, but the three people I spoke to about this hike didn’t find these comments odd. Surprising!!

It was very difficult or impossible to spot the markers, which meant we wasted a lot of time and energy. We had to turn back several times

Hello – this route – from section 1 (Le Blizon) to section 7 – follows the D17A road for 1.2 kilometres – and for safety reasons – it is
preferable to go from 1 to 9 then to 8: the Bénisme Lake viewpoint, and then turn back.
Safety whilst hiking is paramount, given that this route already includes between 5 and 6.8 kilometres of road (D17A).

A group of around 50 walkers must be led by at least 4 to 5 supervisors.

Lovely, easy country walks. As with the Lancosme Forest, with its ponds and meadows, best done in the morning if it’s very hot, and don’t forget a hat or cap. Don’t forget your binoculars for birdwatching.
Oh, I almost forgot: the Brenne Regional Nature Park has numerous walking routes that your routes intersect, overlap, and so on... However, with a little care, you won’t get lost despite the different coloured markings.
