Description of the walk

Drive to the village of Riglos and park, if possible, in the car park at the entrance to the village.
If you're a camper van driver, there's a car park just past the swimming pool.
I recommend doing this loop in the morning, so that you can make the ascent in the shade of the Puro and Pison trees (especially in summer) and get a good view of the Mallos on the way back.
The short tour of the Mallos is usually done in the opposite direction to this description, but I prefer this direction for the view of the Camino de Solano on the way back.

(S/E) From the car park, take the Calla Carretera, heading North and ignore the right-hand start signposted "Sendero Circular a los Mallos de Riglos", which will be our return route. Continue straight on towards the base of the Mallos.
If you wish, you can climb up to the church: just below it, you'll find a path that joins the track leading to the base of the Mallos.

The trail passes the base of the Puro (Cuban for cigar!) and then the Pisón, the starting point for many climbing routes. It then twists and turns into a path that climbs steadily to a pass where you'll find a signpost.

(1) Ignore the path opposite Carcavilla and turn right uphill to the Bentuso viewpoint. After 800 m, the path comes to a flat spot marked by a signpost.

(2) Opposite, descend to Riglos via the short loop. Go right uphill to the Bentuso viewpoint, which is well worth a visit for its magnificent views of el Mallo Pisón, El Puro, el Mallo Firé and the Rio Gallego.

(3) Return to the signpost.

(2) Above you, El Refugio Roseta, a small shelter. Take the nearby uphill path and climb to Collada Espinabla, where there is a trail junction.

(4) Ignore the grassy trailhead on your right leading up to Cerro (Peak) San Cristobal, which is a dead-end.
Take the main track on your right, which runs flat to the east. Continue for about 2 km on this balcony track, with beautiful views of the Pyrenees to the north, almost flat, then downhill towards Collado de Santo Román, which we won't reach.

(5) On the descent to Collado de Santo Román, at around 1060 m, at a bend to the left of the track, find a sign indicating : Riglos par El camino de Solano. Take this little path to the right of the track, which runs on a balcony with superb views. There are a few slightly airy passages which may disturb people prone to vertigo, but they are not dangerous. After around 2 km, the path joins the descent (or ascent) of the Tour des Mallos de Riglos.

(6) Go downhill to the left, to join the GR®1 arriving from Collada de San Román.

(7) Turn right towards Riglos on the GR®1. In the village, take calle Lavadera downhill, which takes you back to the bar. Turn left to reach the car park a few metres away (S/E).

Notes

There are no drinking water points on the route, which is not very shady and can be difficult in hot weather. Bring plenty of water.

Path with many steps, rocks and rolling stones: good shoes are essential, hiking poles strongly recommended as the descent is steep in places. A pair of binoculars for watching vultures or climbers!

The trails are well-marked and well-maintained, so there's little chance of getting lost.

Accommodation and catering available in Riglos, Murrillo de Gallego or Ayerbe. Small grocery store in Riglos and Murillo de Gallego for picnics, more shops in Ayerbe.

Worth a visit

Nearby attractions:
El Castillo de Loarre, perfectly signposted from Ayerbe. Chargeable visit.

The mirador del guitres (vulture viewpoint) and the hermitage of San Marcuello via the Sarsamarcuello carriageway, signposted on the road between Ayerbe and Loarre. Magnificent views of the Mallos de Riglos and the plain.

Lovely day hike in mid-April with my two children, aged 8 and 9. Magnificent views. Crowded at the start of the walk (due to Holy Week), but we didn't see anyone on the second part of the route (which continues the "little" tour of the Mallos). The path was very muddy in places. Breathtaking scenery and views without too much difficulty, I recommend it.

Magnificent hike. The view over the Mallos is impressive. Lots of climbers climbing these Mallos. A real attraction. The view of the snow-covered Pyrenees is magnificent, and it's a real wow when you round a bend.
The route and explanations are perfect.
I recommend good hiking boots and poles, especially for the descent, which you can do at your own pace.
The slightly vertiginous section is quite wide. If you're careful, there's no danger.
Thanks to the author.

From the same author, I recommend the hike to Piedrafita de Jaca: el arco de Piedrafita or arco de Sarronal. Magnificent!

A very nice, easy route. The loop offers beautiful views and is not particularly difficult (there are a few short sections with a bit of emptiness on the side, but there is really no risk if you concentrate on the walk).

Magnificent route. It allows you to see a wide variety of landscapes, the mallos from the village and from the heights. But also (a special feature of this route) a magnificent view of the Spanish Pyrenees.
No particular difficulty..... except perhaps if it's very hot. Bring plenty of water, as there are no springs along the way.

Walk made on 19/05/2022.
We were alone on this route (it was during the week). We met a few people at the viewpoint on the classic loop.
Thank you for this suggested hike, which I don't regret at all.
magnificent view of the snow-capped Pyrenean peaks. superb balcony sections (I wasn't proud, but I have to say I'm sensitive to vertigo).
stony paths => you have to take it easy. good shoes and walking sticks recommended.

Must-do: Loarre castle, in the surrounding area

@daniel louis: I'm delighted that you enjoyed this hike. I really like this part of Aragon and I've worn out a few soles there. For me, this tour of the mallos de Riglos is the best way to discover the area.

An exceptional walk for the beauty and variety of its landscapes. The Mallos site is unique from a geological point of view. What's more, the variant offered here, which takes you up to the ridge (see description: 4 to 5), offers a breathtaking panorama of the Pyrenean ridge line (almost 400 km wide). The clear, dry October weather provided us with optimum visibility conditions. It's hard to understand why so many hikers are 'content' with the simple tour that skips this part of the route.
