Drive to the village of Riglos and park, if possible, in the car park at the entrance to the village.
If you're a camper van driver, there's a car park just past the swimming pool.
I recommend doing this loop in the morning, so that you can make the ascent in the shade of the Puro and Pison trees (especially in summer) and get a good view of the Mallos on the way back.
The short tour of the Mallos is usually done in the opposite direction to this description, but I prefer this direction for the view of the Camino de Solano on the way back.
(S/E) From the car park, take the Calla Carretera, heading North and ignore the right-hand start signposted "Sendero Circular a los Mallos de Riglos", which will be our return route. Continue straight on towards the base of the Mallos.
If you wish, you can climb up to the church: just below it, you'll find a path that joins the track leading to the base of the Mallos.
The trail passes the base of the Puro (Cuban for cigar!) and then the Pisón, the starting point for many climbing routes. It then twists and turns into a path that climbs steadily to a pass where you'll find a signpost.
(1) Ignore the path opposite Carcavilla and turn right uphill to the Bentuso viewpoint. After 800 m, the path comes to a flat spot marked by a signpost.
(2) Opposite, descend to Riglos via the short loop. Go right uphill to the Bentuso viewpoint, which is well worth a visit for its magnificent views of el Mallo Pisón, El Puro, el Mallo Firé and the Rio Gallego.
(3) Return to the signpost.
(2) Above you, El Refugio Roseta, a small shelter. Take the nearby uphill path and climb to Collada Espinabla, where there is a trail junction.
(4) Ignore the grassy trailhead on your right leading up to Cerro (Peak) San Cristobal, which is a dead-end.
Take the main track on your right, which runs flat to the east. Continue for about 2 km on this balcony track, with beautiful views of the Pyrenees to the north, almost flat, then downhill towards Collado de Santo Román, which we won't reach.
(5) On the descent to Collado de Santo Román, at around 1060 m, at a bend to the left of the track, find a sign indicating : Riglos par El camino de Solano. Take this little path to the right of the track, which runs on a balcony with superb views. There are a few slightly airy passages which may disturb people prone to vertigo, but they are not dangerous. After around 2 km, the path joins the descent (or ascent) of the Tour des Mallos de Riglos.
(6) Go downhill to the left, to join the GR®1 arriving from Collada de San Román.
(7) Turn right towards Riglos on the GR®1. In the village, take calle Lavadera downhill, which takes you back to the bar. Turn left to reach the car park a few metres away (S/E).
