There is ample parking on Rue de la Prairie in Redu.
(S/E) Head to the back of the car park, where a dirt track begins. Follow it down to a fork.
(1) Turn left towards the green gate, go through it and close it behind you. Continue through the forest and go down to the road.
(2) Turn right. Go up the road and keep right at the intersection.
(3) Turn left onto the path a little further on. Follow this forest track downhill to a crossroads at a place called La Roche aux Chevaux.
(4) Turn left onto the descending path and head towards the rocks on your right to see the Roche aux Chevaux viewpoint. Turn around and retrace your steps to continue left towards the Lesse. Do not cross, keep to your right and follow the river.
(5) At the crossroads, go up to the right. Further up, turn left and ignore the path immediately on your left to continue straight ahead. Go up. Leave the forest and walk along a cultivated plot. Depending on the height of the crops, you may or may not see two "ears" belonging to the Redu E.S.A. station. Continue along the edge of the fields and then re-enter the forest.
(6) At the large intersection, keep left. Go downhill, ignoring the paths created by forestry work. The path turns slightly to the left before the T-junction.
(7) Turn right and rejoin the road. Turn left and descend along the road to the bridge. Cross it.
(8) Turn left and take the forest path on the right, the one near the river that quickly comes to an end. Follow the Lesse for 2 km. At the fork, cross the ford and continue to the left, ignoring the paths and tracks on your right. Head towards the building. This large garden shed is used to count the trout that come to spawn in the stream where they were born. Information boards provide more details.
(9) Cross the Chicheron stream. Pass the footbridge you saw on the way there, but do not use it. Continue along the Lesse for a while. Depending on the height of the Lesse, you will pass to the left over the rock you encountered and end up on a wide forest path.
(10) Turn left, cross the footbridge over the Our, and you will be at the confluence of the Our and the Lesse. Head left and continue on the path that turns right and runs alongside the Lesse.
(11) Pass a footbridge but do not cross it. Continue on the forest path that moves away from the river and begins to climb.
(12) At the fork, go straight ahead and join a farm track. Turn left. At the crossroads, turn left again.
(13) At the house, stay close to the hedge on the left to take the path downhill. Cross the footbridge and join the road. Continue to the left. At the crossroads, turn right and then right again to see the Notre-Dame de Walcourt Chapel. Retrace your steps, do not go up the road towards Redu, but go back down to the crossroads, where you now turn right. Return to the crossroads you came from.
(2) Turn right to rejoin the path you took on the way there. Go back up into the forest.
(1) Go back through the gate, close it behind you and return to the car park (S/E)
Despite the sunny weather, we didn't meet many people. You do need to be reasonably fit to do it without too much difficulty. However, it could be tricky in wet weather, but it's worth trying. Thank you to whoever created this walk!!!!
