Large car park on Rue de la Prairie in Redu.
(S/E) Head to the back of the car park, where a dirt track begins. Follow it down to a Fork in the road.
(1) Turn left towards the green gate, go through it and make sure you close it behind you. Continue through the forest and head down to the road.
(2) Turn right. Walk up the road and, at the junction, keep to the right.
(3) Turn left onto the path a little further on. Follow this forest track down to a crossroads at a place called La Roche aux Chevaux.
(4) Turn left onto the descending path and head towards the rocky outcrops on your right to see the Roche aux Chevaux viewpoint. Turn around and retrace your steps to continue leftwards towards the Lesse. Do not cross the river; keep to the right and follow the riverbank.
(5) At the crossroads, head up to the right. Further up, turn left and ignore the path immediately on your left to continue straight ahead. Head uphill. Leave the forest and walk alongside a cultivated field. Depending on the height of the crops, you may or may not see the two ‘antennas’ of the Redu E.S.A. station. Continue along the edge of the fields before entering the forest again.
(6) At the wide junction, keep left. Head downhill, ignoring the paths cleared by forestry work. The path veers slightly to the left before the T-junction.
(7) Turn right and join the road. Turn left and walk down the road to the bridge. Cross it.
(8) Turn left and take the forest track on the right; the one near the river soon comes to an end. Follow the Lesse for 2 km. At the fork in the road, fords the stream and continue left, ignoring the paths and tracks branching off to your right. Head towards the building. This large garden shed is used to count the trout that return to spawn in the stream where they were born. Information boards tell you more.
(9) Cross the Chicheron stream. Walk past the footbridge you saw on the way there; do not use it. Continue along the Lesse for a while. Depending on the level of the Lesse, you will pass to the left of or over the rock you encounter and end up on a wide forest track.
(10) Turn left, cross the footbridge over the Our; you are now at the confluence of the Our and the Lesse. Head left and continue along the path, which turns right and runs alongside the Lesse.
(11) Walk past a footbridge but do not cross it; continue along the forest path which moves away from the river and begins to climb.
(12) At the fork in the road, go straight on to join a farm track. Turn left. At the crossroads, turn left again.
(13) At the house, keep close to the hedge on the left to take the path downwards. Cross the footbridge and join the road. Continue to the left. At the junction, turn right and then right again to visit the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Walcourt. Retrace your steps; do not go back up the road towards Redu, but head back down to the junction where you now turn right. Return to the junction you took on the way out.
(2) Turn right to rejoin the path you took on the way there. Head back up through the forest.
(1) Go back through the gate, close it properly behind you and head back to the car park (S/E)
Despite the sunny weather, we didn't meet many people. You do need to be reasonably fit to do it without too much difficulty. However, it could be tricky in wet weather, but it's worth trying. Thank you to whoever created this walk!!!!
