Circular route around the Eichelberg via the Igetalweg

The route starts from the car park at the rear of Brunstatt Cemetery. This starting point, which offers parking spaces, is also accessible by public transport (line 10, Vigneron terminus, 150 m away)

(S/E) With your back to the cemetery, turn right, leaving the cemetery gate on your right, and, a few dozen metres further on, take the path to the left of the fence surrounding the two small houses. At the end of the path, continue along Rue Voltaire, then turn right onto Rue de la Chasse towards the D8b1 leading to Bruebach.

(1) Cross the main road with great care. Head up the small road towards Wicky Farm (Eichelbergweg). After 200 metres, leave the path on your left (this is the return route) and continue to the right along the edge of the woodland for about 150 m.

(2) Turn right immediately after the hillside reservoir. Take a new path recently opened on the left-hand side along the edge of the woodland to avoid going to the bottom of the reservoir and to enjoy a gentle slope until you reach the historic path known as the “Igetalweg” after the hunters’ lookout point. Stay on this path and continue straight ahead. The path crosses a wooded area, then farmland, and joins the path linking Flaxlanden to Riedisheim.

(3) Turn left to join it. About 300 m further on, when this path veers to the right, take the path on the left until you reach the dam of the second hill reservoir.

(4) Walk down the slope of the dam, keeping to the left, to rejoin the path you took on the way there. Continue through the forest until you reach the junction with the D8b1.

(1) Cross the road carefully to return to your starting point via the same route you took on the way out (S/E).

Drinking water is available at the cemetery (except during frosty periods).
The wooded section of this circular route beyond Rue de la Chasse has been opened by volunteers from the Brunstatt Didenheim Environmental Protection Association. You can contact their answering machine to report any obstruction on this circular route by calling 0749 06 33 70.

150 metres to the right of the Igetalweg, on leaving the wooded area, stood the Brunstatt leprosarium and its spring. Today, only a few stones remain on this cultivated land, marking the foundations of this institution, which was once situated as far away as possible from residential areas.
