In Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry, go to the church and turn right onto the Col d'Ispeguy road. Cross the bridge and immediately leave this road to take a small road on the left. Follow it for 1.4 km and park between Xekaleenea and Legasenea in a left-hand bend at an altitude of 260 m. There are only two spaces, otherwise park a little further along on the hard shoulder.
(S/E) Just after the bend, a small path climbs south-west to reach the base of the Tranpeta ridge. The climb through ferns and heather is very steep and sustained until you reach the first summit at 480 m.
(1) The slope levels off slightly and, after a flat section, the path comes to a rocky outcrop at 570 m.
(2) Climb over the rocks on the right-hand side and cross over to the other side of the ridge via a small passage. You will see a black earth path climbing below Tranpeta.
This path is very narrow and those who are afraid of heights may feel very uncomfortable, especially in the absence of ferns from mid-October onwards.
As it continues to climb, this path winds its way around the curve of the mountain. It widens as it reaches the meadow and, after 1.2 km, arrives at a small road.
(3) Follow this road to the right until it ends.
(4) Leave the main track that branches off to the left and take a grassy track that heads towards the forest, passing below a sheepfold. It crosses the beautiful beech forest. At its final exit in a curve, you can see a small path that descends to the right.
(5) Leave the main path on the left and take this small path. It curves to the right and passes close to some hunters' huts. It joins the Nekaitzeko Pass at 814 m, right next to an enclosure.
(6) Follow a north-east-coloured path that runs along the left side of the forest and eventually enters it. Magnificent forest. Follow the path to Col d'Ispeguy at 672 m.
(7) Go to the end of the car park where you will find a wide path that branches off to the right and leads to an enclosure for parking sheep. Here, a path begins on the right that descends into the ravine. Initially open, it joins the forest. It winds through the forest to the Nekaitzeko stream.
(8) The path follows this stream on almost flat ground to a farm and a road.
(9) Follow this road, which serves several farms. It descends at first and then climbs back up to the car park (S/E).
