The banks of the Risle from La Houssaye

A shorter version of the “Risle riverside” walk, which will take you from La Houssaye to Val Gallerand as you play hide-and-seek with the River Risle. The return route goes via Haut-Buisson and then through the Bois de la Noë.

Description of the walk

Library car park opposite the town hall.

(S/E) On leaving the car park, turn left onto Route de Romilly, pass a road on your left and, 50 metres further on, reach the junction with Chemin des Prés de la Forge.

(1) Turn left onto this path. 100 metres further on, turn right onto the Chemin de la Bergerie and join a road (Côte de Grammont).

(2) Turn left onto it, immediately keep right and then carry on straight ahead. Cross the footbridge over the Risle and arrive at a junction.

(3) Turn right onto the GR®224, go through the gate – remember to close it behind you – and continue into the woods. A few hundred metres further on, after walking along the bank of the Risle, turn 90° to the left along the path to reach a road.

(4) Follow it to the right, pass the hamlet of Maison Blanche and then reach the hamlet of Val Gallerand.

(5) Leave the GR® here, turn right and head for Le Haut-Buisson.

(6) Continue along the road for just under 400 m until you reach a four-way junction in a left-hand bend.

(7) Take the blue-marked path opposite, into the Bois de la Noë. At the next junction, keep right and reach another star-shaped junction (elevation 143).

(8) Carry on straight ahead, following the blue markings, skirting a meadow at a place called Les Buttes, cross the road and take the path opposite for 400 m. You’ll reach a junction at the Bois des Annetes.

(9) Continue straight ahead along the fields until you reach the Côte de Grammont.

(10) Turn right and walk to a gate.

(2) Turn left onto the Chemin de la Bergerie, and follow the route back in the opposite direction to return to the library car park opposite La Houssaye Town Hall (S/E).

A very beautiful, varied walk, alternating between woodland, riverside and beautiful buildings. No difficulties.
