Bois de la Faine

There is a large car park on Place du Château. The starting point for the walk is at the foot of the toilet block.

(S/E) Opposite the long building on the edge of the square (with a range of shops), with the Route d’Auxerre (N151) on your left, head right to reach the upper part of the street. In front of the shops, turn left. Leave the Rue du Marché on your right, then take the next alleyway to reach the ‘Stop’ sign. Carry straight on, crossing Boulevard Dussautoy.
Head uphill, ignoring the few streets on your right and left, until you reach a five-way junction.

(1) Turn right. Continue along this same road, leaving the cemetery on your right. When you reach the road, turn left and follow it for 250 metres.

(2) Take the path on the right at the bottom of the valley. After passing the slightly overhanging Chemin des Loups on your left, continue for just under a hundred metres.

(3) Leave the valley by turning right to climb up onto the plateau. Pass the access path to the Vau farm (orchard on the right). At the entrance to the woodland, ignore the path branching off to the left (not marked on the IGN map). At the first three-way junction, head left until you reach a cross-path.

(4) Turn right and follow the main path due south. Ignore all side paths on both the right and left. You will reach the D950 road.

(5) Cross this road with care and continue along the path as it runs straight ahead. Again, ignore any side paths. You’ll come to a barrier made of branches; do not attempt to go through it, as this is a former entrance to private property.

(6) Turn left and you’ll come to a tarmac road 100 m ahead. Take this road, keeping to the right for about 150 m.

(7) Turn onto the path on the right. You’ll soon find yourself in the woodland.

(8) At the fork in the road, take the right-hand path. Stick to the widest path, leaving the side paths on your right. Continue along the edge of the woodland with a power line on your left. After leaving the wooded area, continue across the plain.

(9) Carry straight on and head down towards the starting village. At the first junction with Rue de Beauvais, carry straight on along Rue des Hâtes until you reach the junction with Chemin de Ronde. Carry straight on at this junction. Turn right into the next street (Rue Torse). After about a hundred metres, turn left into Rue Traversière. Turning right into the next alleyway, you’ll reach Place du Château (S/E).

This route is suitable for all seasons; however, in heavy rain, it may become muddy in places. The paths are wide enough to allow you to pass without difficulty.
Toilets are available at the start on the Place du Château.
The route is suitable for mountain biking.

This route, signposted in accordance with the signposting guidelines of the Puisaye-Forterre Community of Communes, is marked with the number 48 on yellow-backed signs.
