Circular Cornes d'Urfé starting from Saint-Marcel d'Urfé

Park in the car park of the community hall at the exit of the village of Saint-Marcel-d'Urfé.

(S/E) Leave the car park and follow the road downhill to the right, then take the^second road on the right.
At the end of the street, continue straight ahead on the dirt track. At the crossroads, take the right-hand track until you reach the D20 road.

(1) Cross it and continue along the road opposite. Stay on this road as you cross the hamlet of La Rondy, then reach a four-way crossroads at the hamlet of La Farge.

(2) Take the road on the right and pass a^first crossroads with a cross. Keep left to reach another crossroads with a cross.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the road and then on the path that follows it. Enter the woods and, when you come out, cross the hamlet of Châtelus and you will soon come to another crossroads, also marked by a cross.

(4) Take the road on the right to reach the hamlet of La Chassagne. Turn left, then take a wide circular right turn to reach the hamlet of Rochefort.

(5) Here, take a quick right then left to descend into the Bois de Combeau. Exit near the hamlet of Le Bost and continue to the end of the descent at the crossroads of the hamlet of La Garde.

(6) Turn right onto the Montée de la Garde track and re-enter the woods. You will reach the crossroads of a forest track.

(7) Take it on the right, continue climbing and reach the top of the Cornes d'Urfé site.

(8) Go around the castle to the east to rejoin the downhill road. Continue along the road for 200 metres, following a left-hand bend. In the bend, take the path that descends steeply to the right. Cross the forest and you will reach a path and the houses of Lagrôle.

(9) Cross the hamlet and, after the last house, follow the wide path downhill to the right. Ignore a path leading off to the right and arrive at a road. Follow it to the right for a few metres, then turn left and arrive at the bridge over the motorway.

(10) Take this road and follow it to the right at a right angle. In a bend to the left, veer right to walk along the woods. At the next crossroads, turn left onto the path to go up the hill. At the crossroads with the cross, continue straight ahead and then go down the path between the farm buildings of the hamlet of Charbonnier.

(11) Continue until you reach the D20 road, follow it to the right for about 100 metres. Leave it on the left and take the path. You will then come to another road, take it to the right and you will reach the hamlet of Les Fans.

(12) Continue along the path, cross another wood and, at the end, you will reach a crossroads.

(13) Take the path on the right. Begin a steady climb through the Bois Saint-Roch. At the top of this climb, you will reach a crossroads near the motorway.

(14) Turn left and cross the motorway bridge again. Continue along the road to the left and then to the right towards the village of Saint-Marcel. Pass a pond on your right and then cross the village towards the Château d'Urfé to reach the car park of the village hall (S/E).

(8) Visit to Les Cornes d'Urfé: visit the site and climb to the top of one of the castle towers, where there are several orientation tables and a superb, almost 360-degree panoramic view.
