Description of the walk

Park near the car park of the Saint-Lager-Bressac campsite.

(S/E) Turn left onto the tarmac road, then veer slightly right towards Richard and Bressac. Continue straight on and, after passing under a very high-voltage power line, turn right towards Pinet. Take a right-left turn and head for the Bressac junction where theGR®42is located.

(1) Continue to the right for several hundred metres along thisGR® trail, following the red and white markings, until you reach the junction at Richard.
Enjoy the beautiful view of the valley from this dirt track

(2) Leave theGR® and turn left. Further on, ignore the path ahead, which leads to Château de Font Blachère, and head up to the right amongst the oaks, boxwoods, junipers and pines. Continue along this path.

(3) Shortly after a hunters’ hut, leave the main path and head down to the right, passing under a high-voltage power line and continuing downwards amongst holm oaks, junipers and broom in the Vallon de Font Salla.

(4) After passing under another high-voltage power line, leave the main path and head down to the right along a steep path. Cross the Ruisseau de Sichier twice, then climb up the opposite side onto a wider path. After a few hairpin bends, continue along the main path until you reach a fork. Enjoy the beautiful view here of the Montagne d’Andance and the Lérou plateau.

(5) Continue straight ahead on the Saint-Vincent-de-Barrès Crua tourist road, pass under two high-voltage power lines and continue until you meet theGR®42.

(6) Turn right onto thisGR® trail, following the red and white markings. You will reach the sign for the Barrès State Forest.

(7) Leave the main path and head straight up a narrower ridge path overlooking the valley. Climb through an oak forest, pass under a high-voltage power line and, after a sharp bend, take a path that descends through boxwood and juniper. Keep a close eye on the red and white markings as the path is very difficult. The path is very stony. From here, you can see the village of Saint-Lager-Bressac and its bell tower. When you reach a wide path, directly beneath another high-voltage power line, turn left to reach the Bressac crossroads, which you passed on the way out.

(1) Leave theGR®42and turn left, following the path in the opposite direction to return to the car park near the Saint-Lager-Bressac campsite (S/E) by following the white and yellow markings.

A lovely walk on this beautiful, sunny day with clear blue skies. Thanks for the route description – it was very clear. A lovely little walk to get back into the swing of things after the holidays. For those of you who, like me, are keen on both walking and photography, leave your camera in your rucksack. A walk with no particular difficulties. Perfect.

A fairly easy walk, with no real difficulties. The route is well signposted.
Tarmac road mainly at the start and finish, nothing too bad; after that, you mainly walk along fairly wide forest tracks. The views are nice but not spectacular.
There are plenty of hunters along the route, who are friendly towards walkers.

A more interesting hike than described in other reviews; very wild. It’s true that you have to search a bit through the vegetation to find the viewpoints.
Came across two groups of hunters, but we managed to have a chat.
Took 4 hours but I didn’t stop

As for visitor numbers, I’m not sure!
As for the route description, a few minor uncertainties... but the map is very useful

. The path runs mostly through woodland and, up on the heights, there’s no view... too much vegetation; otherwise, it’s a pleasant path and well signposted too... lovely view on the way back
