Access: In our region, the D5 is called "la route Minervoise". Whether you are coming from the east or the west, you will find the D26 which will take you to Bize-Minervois. You will pass in front of the Oulibo olive oil cooperative. About 1 km further on, before entering the village, you will see a large car park on your left. This car park belongs to the restaurant "La Grange" but it is so large that you can park there without any problem.
(S/E) Leave the car park onto the D5, cross it and, a little to the left, take a road that climbs between a few houses. This road will quickly turn into an unpaved track. Continue along it, ignoring the two tracks that branch off at an acute angle to the right. After two sharp hairpin bends, you will find yourself on a large open space where cars are often parked and walkers and mountain bikers can be seen.
(1) Take the right-hand lane after visiting the underground drystone shelter marked by a small sign. Follow this road all the way up between the forest and the rocks. On your left, you will find a picnic area with a few wooden tables.
(2) At the large crossroads, turn right to continue along the main path.
(3) You will arrive at a large crossroads with several paths at the Chapelle Saint-Hilaire. Take the left-hand path and descend almost to the Pech ridge.
(4) On the left side of the path, you will see some relay antennas and, on the right, a watchtower for monitoring fires. Continue straight ahead on this path, ignoring the one that branches off to the right. A little further on, the path bends slightly to the right. Continue along this path, ignoring the grassy path that continues straight ahead. Walk until you reach the large embankment.
(1). From there, take the same path as on the way there to return to the car park (S/E).
A lovely, peaceful walk along firebreaks and through the pine forest
A lovely, easy hike for the whole family, sheltered from the wind and sunny. We really liked the picnic area with its wooden table and benches.
