Departure from the Augraben fishing pond next to the hydroelectric power station, Rue Stoskopf, in Eschau.
(S/E) At the pond, turn right and follow the yellow ring markings towards the Petite Ill footbridge.
At the end of the footbridge, head slightly left across the fields, following the electricity pylons (do not head towards the first houses on the right or go all the way to the left along the bank of the Petite Île upstream). Follow the Yellow Ring sign, passing in front of the pumping station, then turn right in front of the Bruchmatt Pond and finally left, walking alongside the houses until you reach the entrance to the playground. Here, leave the Yellow Ring sign on the left for about 50 metres.
(1) Take the first path on the right. After about 100 m, two posts from an old barrier, currently repainted in fluorescent green, confirm that you are on the right path. Note that there is a shortcut between the pumping station and the point through the forest. Continue for 700 to 800 metres, then turn right to the Ichtratzheim War Memorial and turn left for about 100 metres before turning right for 700 to 800 metres.
(2) You will come to a first footbridge over the first branch of the Petite Ill. Cross the footbridge.
(3) The path continues for 100 to 200 metres before a second footbridge over another branch of the Petite Ill (which does not appear on the 1:25,000 map unless you zoom in as far as possible). Cross this second footbridge, continue straight ahead and after 200 to 300 metres you will reach a crossroads.
(4) Turn left to find the blue diamond markings for the Sentier des Pêcheurs.
Follow it to the crossroads at Borne 146.
(5) Continue to the right.
(6) After passing the second clearing, take the path on the left that leads into the forest towards a place called Les Sept Sources, rather than the much more monotonous forest road, even though it also leads back to the starting point. The markings are not very visible at this point, but you will find the blue diamond again after a few hundred metres.
(7) Once you reach Les Sept Sources, return to the starting point (S/E) by following the blue diamond. There are two options:
- either immediately after the bridge, you can follow this branch of the Ill and return to the starting point;
- or take the educational trail, which lengthens the route slightly (marked with two yellow dots).
