Description of the walk

Park in the designated spaces on Rue du Maréchal Foch.

(S/E) Set off to the right along the path that climbs gently towards Gloeckelsberg hill and leads onto Rue de la Montagne. Turn left here, negotiate the right-hand bend and continue along Rue de la Tour to reach Gloeckelsberg. Here you will find the village cemetery, dominated by its iconic tower, a remnant of the village’s old church.

(1) Retrace your steps and take the path on the right. Along the way, let yourself be charmed by the traditional orchards and the few vineyards that have built the reputation of the local terroir.

(2) Turn right at the junction and join the Chemin du Réservoir, following it to the right.

(3) When you reach the reservoir itself, turn diagonally left to continue following the Red Ring. Cross the plain, keeping straight on until you reach some large farm buildings. Turn right at a 90° angle towards Geispolsheim, walk past the Société Hippique and then the cemetery, before arriving at Rue du Général de Gaulle.

(4) Head left, turn right onto Rue des Écoles, then take the street on the left at the care home to reach Sainte-Marguerite Church.

(5) In front of the church square, head right onto Rue des Chevaliers. At the end, take Rue du Fossé on the left, which is a dead end. Continue along the path that leads to the footbridge over the Ehn, cross it and emerge onto Rue de la Chapelle. Turn left to reach the junction with Rue des Primevères.

(6) Turn right onto a dirt track leading to the Chapel of Hattisheim. This peaceful spot is dedicated to Our Lady of Seven Sorrows.

(7) Continue along the Red Ring marked trail, cross the bridge over a stream and arrive at the junction with the D161.

(8) Cross it carefully and continue along the path opposite, temporarily leaving the marked route. Turn right twice in succession at 90°, rejoining the Red Ring trail near peaceful fishing ponds: did you know that these were once old soaking ponds for hemp?

(9) Take the track on the left, cross the bridge over the Schiffbach, and walk alongside another long pond. The path finally offers an unobstructed view of the silhouette of Blaesheim and its tower. Return to the D161.

(10) Head left for a few dozen metres, then leave the road and take a path on the left which eventually rejoins the main road one last time.

(11) Head right and follow the road for about a hundred metres, cross the bridge over the Altenbach, then take a small road immediately on the left which first turns right then left further on to cross the Altenbach, crosses the bridge over the Ehn just before coming out onto Rue des Prés.

(12) Turn left, keep left at the three-way junction, then take the path on the left between nos. 22 and 28. Join Rue de la Forêt, follow it and rejoin Rue des Prés.

(13) Continue to the left, turn right to reach the Protestant church. Cross the car park, take Rue du Moulin on the right then Rue du Maréchal Foch on the left until you reach the car park (S/E).
