The starting point is the car park at Rancé Church.
(S/E) With your back to the church, take Rue de la Mairie opposite, which runs alongside the village restaurant. At the end of the small road, turn left onto the departmental road until you reach the junction with the water tower, whose silhouette is visible from the Dombes plateau.
(1) Continue until you reach a crossroads at a place called Les Balmes.
(2) Continue straight ahead until the next intersection. Turn right, then left and then right again towards Les Piémontes. Continue until you reach the dirt track on the left.
(3) Stay on this road until it ends at Les Piémontes, at the edge of a wooded area.
(4) Turn left and join the small Rue du Limanda. Pass in front of a wash house. It was restored to its original state in 2007 and bears witness to the 19th-century hygiene movement.
(5) Keep going until you reach the intersection. Cross the Morbier, take the road on the left which then turns into a path, and continue straight ahead. Before the end of the path, look to the left in the middle of the field to see the Pierre Brune,a large granite block that has been protected by ministerial decree since 1930. Continue to the end of the path.
(6) Keep left and continue across the fields, then along the woods until you reach a road.
(7) Turn right, then immediately left, and continue along the Bois de Chapouilleux until you reach a crossroads.
(8) Turn left and head back up towards the village.
(9) Continue straight ahead on the road. On the way, you may see the Pierre Brune on your left, just before crossing the Morbier. Continue to the Balmes intersection, which you passed at the start.
(2) Turn right and follow the route in reverse to return to the car park (S/E).
