Description of the route

Park in the car park at the Caveau des Vignerons du Sommiérois, located at 2 Rue de l’Arnède.
The walk starts from the Vignerons du Sommiérois wine cellar.

(S/E) Leave the car park and take the road on the left leading to the Arnède roundabout. Turn left to follow the Vidourle along a cycle path.

(1) After the next roundabout, cross the Vidourle via the footbridge to reach the Arènes de Sommières. Cross the car park and join a small road (Chemin de la Princesse), then follow it to the left. Pass under the D6110 and continue alongside the Vidourle, keeping a fair distance from the river. You’ll come to the first wine tourism sign: Le Chardonnay.

(2) Carry on along the road to the left to cross the Vidourle again. At the junction with a road, cross it to reach a path.

(3) Go through a small tunnel. Carry on straight ahead to reach the Saint-Julien Chapel.

(4) Do take the opportunity to visit this Romanesque-style chapel, built in the 11th and 12th centuries.
Turn back and head back down to the small tunnel.

(3) Take the tarmac path on the left and you’ll reach the second information panel: Le Sauvignon.

(5) Once you’ve read this, carry on along the tarmac path. Before you reach the village of Aspères, the last plot along the path features information board no. 3: La Roussanne.

Once you’ve read it, join the road that runs through Aspères, turn left and continue along the road until you reach the Cave Coopérative, where our wines are produced.

(8) Take the path leading uphill to the right, towards Aspères Town Hall, and walk up to it. When you reach the town hall, take the road on the left and continue straight on until you reach information sign no. 4: Grenache Noir.

(9) Take the tarmac path on the left to reach information panel no. 5 on your left: Merlot.

(10) Carry on to information panel no. 6: Grenache Noir, then continue to the bend to the right.

(11) Walk a few metres to admire this vineyard plot.
Get back on your bike and continue along this tarmac track. After the descent, you’ll reach a road; cross it and take the tarmac track opposite. 150 metres after crossing the road, take the track on the left, then the one on the right to arrive in front of sign no. 7: Le Syrah.

(12) Carry on along this tarmac path. At the junction, turn left and head towards the village of Campagne.
Walk through the village via Rue Fresque and head towards Sommières at the roundabout.

(13) Just past the last houses in the village, turn left onto a tarmac path that leads downhill. At the junction, go straight ahead. 500 m further on, at the four-way junction (road and paths), turn right to reach sign no. 8, the final information sign: Le Viognier.

(14) Continue along this tarmac track. One last short climb awaits you. You’ll arrive at a housing estate on the hills above Sommières; head downhill to reach the area next to the supermarket. At the roundabout, turn left to reach the wine cellar (S/E).

Hello,

As keen walkers, we tried out this new cycle route organised by the Vignerons du Sommiérois.
The section from the winery to the tennis courts is partly tarmac, but you’ll soon reach a cycle path that runs alongside the pretty village of Sommières.

The tarmac section doesn’t last long and you’ll soon reach a very pleasant wooded area, followed by quiet country lanes with no cars – ideal for cycling and making the most of the surroundings.

We loved discovering the little chapel, cycling through the villages, but above all exploring the beautiful vineyards of the Vignerons du Sommiérois. The signposts are well-designed, the explanations are clear and they allow you to learn a bit more about the vineyards (a nice extra is the audio recordings of the winegrowers who are passionate about their craft).

At the end of the walk, we visited the wine cellar, where the staff were very welcoming and friendly, and enjoyed sampling their wines and local produce.

A walk suitable for all ages!
