Starting point: car park on the D33 Chapelle Saint-Gabriel.
Take the small steps leading from the car park to the chapel. Go around the chapel and continue climbing. You will see the ruins of a tower (Ruine d'Ernaginum) and follow a well-marked path. This will lead you to a wider path.
(1) Turn left, about 500 metres from the start, and the return route will take you back to this point from the other side.
after about 300m, you will come to another path which you take on the right as it curves upwards. There is a signpost marked "AL101". Further on, you will see a cistern on the right and a wooden signpost bearing the Roman numeral VIIII. You will see several of these signposts with Roman numerals along the route.
When you reach a "Territoire de Chasse" (hunting grounds) sign, wooden signs with arrows indicate different directions.
Take theGR®6on the left and follow it for just over 1 km, ignoring all other paths on the right. Pass cistern 276 halfway along this section and continue to cistern 142.
(2) Behind cistern 142, take the grassy path on the right that descends and offers glimpses of the plain and the city of Arles in the distance. Cross a path and continue for 300 metres to reach a path (signposted "Chasse gardée").
(3) Turn right (yellow trail). Continue for about 750m, ignoring all paths on the right and left (you will see the Tarascon plain and the Eoliennes). The path begins a short, well-marked descent, then a small climb, arriving at a right angle to another path.
(4) When the yellow arrow indicates to turn right, turn left for 70 metres until you reach cistern 275 (marker XII).
(5) Turn right and follow the path for about 200 metres, then turn left onto the path where you can see some stone slabs partially visible; it then becomes grassy. You will pass a marker bearing the Roman numeral XIII.
Turn right, and further on in a less wooded area, opposite two large cypress trees, join theGR®6-GR®653.
(6) Turn left. You will see the town of Arles and Montmajour Abbey.
400m further on, a sign for "Le Planet" provides information on respecting nature (6km). A cistern and directional arrows serve as landmarks.
(7). Turn right towards Saint-Gabriel (you can see the marker with the number II behind you) and return to the junction you took on the way there.
(1) Turn left and you will approach the ruined tower, which you can walk along on the left before descending towards the chapel and then the car park.
