Around the Plovan ponds

Discover the coastal lakes of Trunvel and Kergalan on the edge of Audierne Bay, which opens out onto the open sea.
The passage near the ruins of Languidou Chapel is always remarkable, not to mention the charm of the small village of Plovan.

Description of the walk

(S/E) With your back to the car park, cross the grassy area with two picnic tables and turn left into the first street, which continues as a dirt track.

YellowPR® markings

Reach a small road and follow it for a few metres. At the intersection, turn right, pass Ty Broc'h (badger house).

No markings

(1) At the next three-way junction, continue on the road on the right overlooking the ruins of Languidou Chapel and join the road leading to Plovan. Follow it to the left and reach a bridge.

Markings:PR® Yellow +GR® 34

(2) After the bridge, turn right onto a grassy path that climbs through a wooded area and reach another three-way junction where you leave the GR®.

YellowPR® markings

(3) Turn left, continue to the junction with a small road and follow it to the left for a few dozen metres, then turn right.

No markings

(4) Continue straight ahead despite the yellow cross and at the end of the road, at a place called Kerlan, turn right. You will rejoin the road you left earlier.

YellowPR® +GR® 34 markings

Once you have rejoined thePR® andGR® trails, turn left and continue along this small road, which turns at a right angle opposite a car park (viewpoint over the Étang de Trunvel lake). Cross the small village of the same name and continue along a stony path to reach a bird observatory on the left. Take the time to climb up and observe the birds on the pond (free access).

(5) Continue along the path between two hedges of thorns and arrive near a protected area with an information panel about a bird that is particularly monitored on this site: the aquatic phragmite. Continue along the new pontoon that allows you to pass through the reed bed and arrive at the junction with a small road.

(6) Turn left for a return trip to the seashore. There is a wide view of Audierne Bay with Pointe de la Torche on the left, a popular spot for surfers.

(6), turn left onto a grassy path that runs alongside the Étang de Kergalan. In winter, this path can be very wet and even impassable in places (an alternative route is provided in this case, see practical information). The path overlooks the lake, which is partly hidden by a large reed bed. The sea is not always visible, but its sound accompanies us. Continue with a view of the village of Plovan on your left.

(7) Turn right towards the Rundavid farm. Please note that the route on the map leading to a footbridge is incorrect. Crossing the bottom of the pond is no longer permitted. Turn left at Rundavid and you will reach a small road.

(8) Follow this stretch of road to the left towards Lesmenguy and continue along the path that turns right at the three-way junction.

(3) Take the same path back down to the bridge.

(2) Turn left and you will reach a grassy platform where you leave theGR®34.

YellowPR® markings

Turn right and climb a narrow stony path which can be slippery in wet weather. At the top, turn right onto the road.

No markings

(9) At the three-way junction, leave the sign for Moulin Henry on your right and follow the road towards Lanouris. Follow this small road which curves around. At the next crossroads, continue straight on to enter the village at the town hall and reach the car park on the left (S/E).

An easy and pleasant route between ponds, sea and countryside. A minor issue when printing the route: two red lines sometimes run parallel and then diverge. Just follow the correct one.
