Around Sévignac

A walk around Sévignac, offering a glimpse of some of the local heritage.
The route presents no particular difficulties, is largely tarmac-surfaced, and the walk described below was completed with two children aged 6 and 8 without any problems.
Along the route, there is a pond that invites you to take a break, the old mill, a bread oven, the Rochereuil ‘cave’ with a lovely view just behind it, a wash house and a few other points of interest.

Description of the walk

The walk starts from the car park next to the church.

(S/E) First, head down Rue du Fournil, passing the bakery, then go past the Grande and Petite Clôture to reach a road.

(1) Leave the tarmac road and take the path opposite to join the D16.

(2) At the three-way junction, take the main road to the left of the wayside shrine and continue until you reach the next road on the left.

(3) Turn left and leave the main road. If you look back, you’ll have a lovely panoramic view of Sévignac. Continue along this road, passing the hamlets of La Gresse and Pseul, until you find a path on the right.

(4) Turn onto this path which climbs, pass under the power lines and join a new road.

(5) Turn right onto this new tarmac road and follow it to the junction with the D16.

(6) Turn left onto it and follow it for a good hundred metres until you reach a road running alongside a quarry.

(7) Turn right, follow the quarry along this quiet road, and arrive at the Étang de Rochereuil.

(8) Walk along the pond and turn right to see a bread oven and the start of the botanical trail.

(9) Retrace your steps and continue along the road until you reach a Fork in the road.

(10) Ignore the signposted routes and continue up the hill towards Rochereuil. Turn right to reach the Grotte de Rochereuil.

(11) Retrace your steps and take the road again, which at one point branches off towards Ville ès Brets (the village). Head towards the hamlet and arrive at a three-way junction with a central reservation, at No. 1. Turn right and you’ll soon reach the mill.

(12) After taking in the surroundings, return to the three-way junction and continue to the right. At the next crossroads, keep right, pass under a power line and arrive at a wash house.
(13) Turn right, walk past the cemetery and you’ll find the car park next to the church on your right (S/E).

We were only disturbed by a hunt. Fortunately, it was far away from us.

Hello

There is a lack of signage before crossing the departmental road at the quarry!
Pleasant hike

Hello, I did want to include it, but to be honest, I went as far as Ville-es-Brets but couldn’t find it. I’ve just had a look on Google and realised I’d missed it – it’s barely 150 metres off the route. I’m almost tempted to edit the route to add it, as it looks quite lovely. Thanks for your feedback on the hike. Best regards.

Hello, I’ve already been on walks around Rochereuil, but starting from Plénée-Jugon, following the signposted route and returning to Plénée (25 km). I’ve also taken tourist friends on these routes. The “around Sévignac” walk, as described, takes you past the wash house. It’s a shame to miss out on the section near the Moulin de la Ville ès Brets; it’s a lovely spot, but you can’t go everywhere.
