Around Noyelles-sur-Escaut

Park in the church car park.

(S/E) With your back to Rue du Presbytère, turn left onto Rue Pasteur. Continue by turning left onto Rue du 8 Mai, then turn right onto Rue de la Procession.

(1) At the junction with Rue de Marcoing, turn right, then take Chemin des Bois on the left. Follow this road to the D15, near the water tower.

(2) At the Premy crossroads, turn left onto Rue de Premy towards Marcoing. Walk on the side of the road.

(3) At the intersection with Avenue Arthur Rimbaud, turn right, then left. When you reach Avenue de l'Espérance, turn right.

(4) At the junction with Rue Berthelot, turn left. Ignore the first street on the right, then take the next one: Rue Victor Hugo. Ignore the street on the right. Pass close to the church.

(5) At the intersection with Rue de la République, turn left, then right onto Rue de la Mairie. Continue to the roundabout at Place du Général de Gaulle, then turn left onto Rue Roger Salengro. Follow this street until you reach the Escaut river.

(6) Once you have crossed the bridge, turn right onto the path. Before the railway bridge, turn right onto the parallel path, then continue right onto Voie Communale du Canal. Follow the Canal de Saint-Quentin, then turn right towards Masnières.

(7) At the intersection with the national road, turn left and cross the canal. Ignore the street on the left and the two streets on the right. At Petite Rue de Marcoing, turn left, then left again into Rue de Marcoing. Do not take the street on the left.

(8) At the roundabout on Rue de Marcoing, take the second exit towards Marcoing. Ignore the dead-end street on the left and the road on the right, then turn right onto Allée des Chênes. Continue along the pedestrian path.

(9) At the roundabout on Allée des Chênes, continue straight ahead. At the next crossroads, take the left-hand road, Voie de Noyelles. Cross the railway line and continue on Chemin de Rumilly.

(10) At the three-way junction with Rue de Cambrai, turn left and walk on the right-hand pavement. At the intersection with Rue de la Gare, turn right and cross the canal.

(11) After crossing the bridge, turn right onto Chemin du Bois de Talma. As you approach Noyelles-sur-Escaut, continue straight ahead on the towpath until you reach Pont de Cantigneul.

(12) When you reach the lock, turn left, stay on the side of the road, then take the footpath on the right, parallel to the road.

(13) At the bend in the D92, turn left onto Rue du Marais à Ruelle. Ignore the paths on the right and left leading to Noyelles-sur-Escaut.

(14) At the intersection with Rue Sorel, turn left. Do not take the two streets on the right, then turn left into Rue du Presbytère. At the end, you will return to your starting point. (S/E)

The route is easy but not signposted. The terrain is earth, grass, stones and tarmac. Wear suitable footwear.
