A very pleasant walk through a wide variety of landscapes: woodland, fields, villages (notably a detour via Jouarre), the Dhuys aqueduct, and the banks of the Petit Morin and the Marne.

I really liked the information boards explaining the work carried out in the millstone quarry at Bois de la Barre and those detailing the links between Jouarre and monasticism.

Notes:

- Best done in dry weather (likely to be muddy and slippery in the rain);
- At point 7, it would have been helpful to specify “let the GR go off to the left and go straight on to enter the woods”;
- At point 10: to avoid the unattractive D603, after crossing the Marne, take the first path on the left then the first path on the right, cross the D603 and take Rue du Four opposite;
- The siphon crossing: two options – either, for the more adventurous, an unsafe staircase and a rickety bridge, or, by taking a path on the left, a ford that is passable with good walking boots;
- Between point 16 and the Moulin de Comporté, there is a ditch about a metre wide that crosses the path; you cross it via a wooden plank serving as a bridge (?): more acrobatics.

In short, a lovely day’s walk well worth doing again and again.

A lovely walk that alternates between woodland and farmland. The short educational route about millstones is very interesting. As one hiker suggests, you can follow the GR between points 10 and 11 to avoid the busy D603 road through Sammeron.

A lovely walk: the route through the Bois de la Barre is well worth it; the Banquette de la Dhuys is too

In wet weather, the path is very muddy and slippery over a long stretch... bring walking poles

Between 8 and 9 km, the path is uninteresting and monotonous (crossing cultivated land); following the GR from 7 km seems better to me, even if it means following the D3E for 700–800 m before reaching the bridge over the Marne (though I haven’t tried this)

Before reaching Sammeron, I took the GR on the left rather than sticking to the road all the way to the D603

No problem crossing the siphon (in 2013), despite the mud;

A pleasant walk, despite a light drizzle for part of the day.
We had already hiked from La Ferté before, but on the other bank of the Marne. The Bois de la Barre, with its history of millstone quarrying, was a real discovery.
At point 5, the enclosure where the millstones are on display is a much more visible landmark than the small sign for the Way of St James.
No trouble crossing the culvert; the stream was completely dry.
The verge along the Dhuys had only just been mown. We came across a tractor at work as we arrived in Jouarre. On another walk, we were told that, for environmental reasons, mowing was now done later in the season, hence the tall grass in spring.

A lovely walk with explanations about the extraction of millstone

Lots of tall grass along the DHUIS route
but still very good, with a lovely view from the heights

Hello; I’m not very familiar with hiking or this website. I’m therefore grateful for the work done by the user who took the trouble to suggest and summarise the route. I must admit I found it a bit difficult to find my way after a few stages in the forest, so I decided to wing it.

A very pleasant walk.

A lack of detail in places. At points 6 and 7: we couldn’t find the route and had to
make a detour to find it again.

At point 10, it’s better to follow the GR to the left before the D603 to avoid walking along the road.

At point 13, crossing the siphon can be tricky depending on the weather.

A pleasant walk, though very muddy on this December day.
Take care at (13) where the culvert is; the Ru de la Péreuse had turned into a raging river which I had to cross with water up to my calves.
