Around Chouzé-sur-Loire

The route starts from the Chouzé-sur-Loire car park, which offers ample parking.

(S/E) Join the main road (D952) and follow it to the left for a few dozen metres. Then take the cobbled descent towards the banks of the Loire and the Quai des Sarrazins, and continue along Rue de l’Île Bourdon, following the river.

(1) At the V-shaped tree marked with yellow and red signposts, take the small path on the right which leads back up to Rue de Saumur; cross it at the pedestrian crossing, taking care as there may be heavy traffic, and continue along Rue Ménier. Walk past the old mill and arrive at the crossroads by the oratory.

(2) Carry on straight ahead for about fifty metres, then, at the sign for “La Chapelle des Pelouses”, turn left onto the path towards La Touche. Walk alongside the vineyards and turn right towards Le Joncher.

(3) Take Rue des Sablons, following the yellow and red markers, then turn right onto Rue des Saulaies. Continue along this road, which runs alongside a small copse on your left.

(4) At the edge of the woodland, turn left onto Allée des Sablons. At the left-hand bend, leave the road and go straight on along a path, continuing to follow the yellow and red markings. When you reach a small road, turn right onto the^GRP® Coteaux de Bourgueil and carry on to the level crossing.

(5) After the level crossing, go round the gatekeeper’s house via the small path on the right, then follow the railway line towards Port Boulet until you reach the next level crossing. Cross the railway line again and walk for about fifty metres.

(6) Take the small road on the right (yellow markings on the telephone pole). Follow this road past a farm, where it turns into a stony track winding through the fields until you reach the village of Chouzé-sur-Loire and Rue du Ménier. You’ll come to the junction by the oratory you passed on the way there.

(2) Turn left into Rue des Moulins. Walk past two mills and then along the vineyards until you reach the junction with Rue de Saint-Nicolas. Turn right towards the church.

(7) When you reach the church square, turn left onto Rue de la Mine until you rejoin the road to Saumur and the Chouzé service area (S/E).
