(S/E) From the car park, with your back to the school, walk up to Avenue du Facteur Cheval (war memorial). Turn right and continue to No. 280, keeping on the right-hand pavement.
Turn left to cross the street and go opposite Route de Bathernay. Before reaching the church, turn right onto Sentier du Presbytère. Go around the buildings via a few steps and you will arrive at a small square that appears to be the courtyard of a house. Turn left in front of the house (leaving the street on your right) and follow the path uphill to Rue Notre-Dame de la Garde (tarmac). Turn left and walk for about 20 metres until you arrive in front of a private school.
(1) Turn right between numbers 100 and 110, go through a gate and follow the path which, further on, turns right into the woods and comes out onto a tarmac road. Turn left and go to the entrance gate of the Château de Charmes (see Practical Information). Continue along the tarmac road, ignoring the paths on either side. After about 500m, you will come to a clearing. Continue to the end of the clearing (elevation 338).
(2) Leave the road and turn left onto the path that follows the edge of the woods for a while, then enters the woods. Continue along this flat path until you reach a large meadow. At the end, the path begins to descend, take a sharp left turn (ignore a path on the right that is not marked on the map) and you will come to an old motocross track. Follow it on the right until it ends.
(3) At the end of the field (sprinkler valve on the right), turn immediately left onto a path between the trees. Continue along the wide path until you reach the D121.
Cross with caution and continue straight ahead on the paved road. Pass the houses and arrive at the Biquet sign, at the corner of the last building.
(4) Turn right towards Bois de Bard. After the last farm building, the path becomes stony and turns right uphill (north). This section of the Bois de Bard is currently being cleared (September 2018). After a wide left-hand bend, you will reach an open area.
(5) Turn left at a right angle into a sunken lane, which is so deep that at one point you have to climb up the sides because the runoff has created a passage that is too steep.
Reach a crossroads and turn left to arrive 350m further on at a large crossroads with a sign for Bois de Bard. Continue left towards Les Pinates and you will soon reach another crossroads.
(6) Take the track downhill on the left and you will come out onto a tarmac road. Follow it to the right and after 400m you will arrive at the Les Pinates crossroads opposite a large farm building (signpost offset to the right).
(7) Turn left towards Charmes-sur-l'Herbasse. At the crossroads in front of No. 980, turn left onto Chemin des Roches and go downhill. When the road levels out, leave it and turn left onto a path that goes into the woods. Join a tarmac road and follow it to the right until you reach the D67.
(8) Turn left and follow the road, keeping to the side. At the war memorial, turn right and cross the road carefully to return to the car park (S/E).
