(S/E) Start from the car park at Barthenay Town Hall. Take the Montée des Grottes opposite the town hall, passing in front of the cave dwellings.
(1) At the church, turn left and go uphill. Pass in front of the old fortified house and continue uphill on the small road called Descente de l'Église.
(2) Turn right onto Route de Saint-Avit and continue straight ahead.
(3) Keep right at the three-way junction, then bear left as you pass Les Michalons. Continue straight ahead, following theGR®415, until you reach the crossroads at cote 415.
(4) Turn right onto the descending path, which leads to Chemin du Flachet, and follow it to the right.
(5) Cross the D584 to go opposite, continue downhill and, at the yellow gas pipe signs, turn right just before the end of the small tarmac road. Follow the path downhill, markedPR® Yellow, and you will come to a T-junction.
(6) Turn right, keeping to the markings, and stay on this path, which initially resembles a dry riverbed before becoming a sunken path. Continue to the pumping station on the D584a.
(7) Take this road on the right. Turn left at the three-way junction and follow the road to the sign for "Les Blaches".
(8) Take the path on the right that goes uphill, entering the field, and immediately turn left. Continue to the D584: sign for "Laca".
(9) Cross over and continue straight up towards the "1001 cornes" (1001 horns), which you will leave on your right as you descend a sunken path. Continue to a four-way junction: signposted "Champ Guinot".
(10) Turn right onto a small tarmac road, then a sandy path. Continue until you reach a small tarmac road. Cross carefully and continue straight ahead.
(11) Just after the small bridge, take the barely marked path on the right, heading due north. This path rejoins the road, which you should follow in the same direction. Turn left at the three-way junction and continue for about a hundred metres.
(12) Turn right and continue along a beautiful little path markedPR® Yellow.
(13) When you reach Les Cottes, ignore the road on the left and stay on the marked path until you reach the junction with a wider, stony path.
(14) Take a short detour to the left to get closer to the Carolingian tower of Ratières.
(15) Turn back.
(14) Continue straight ahead on the path to join the tarmac road to Saint-Avit, in an S-bend.
(16) Take this road on the right and return to a fork you passed on the way there.
(3) Continue straight ahead, following the same route as on the way there.
(2) Turn left towards the church, then right to reach the car park at the town hall (S/E).
