Description of the walk

The hike starts at the Saint-Marien Church in Bezange-la-Grande, at the end of Rue Haute. Parking is available around the church.

(S/E) Opposite the church, turn left and continue straight ahead to the end of Grande Rue.

(1) Take the path on the right, cross the Loutre Noir and continue along the grassy path to reach Rue des Jonquilles.

(2) Follow it to the left for about 100 m.

(3) Take the first track on the right. At the top of the hill (altitude 220), turn right, east, onto Chemin Napitant. At the edge of the woods, turn right onto the descending track, heading south, and join a wide stone track.

(4) Take it on the left at the edge of the forest.

(5) Just before the entrance to the forest, follow the wide grassy path through the undergrowth, climbing steeply to the left. The entrance is not very visible. Join the Tranchée de la Haie Maie.

(6) Follow this track to the right for 150 m.

(7) Turn left onto a wide forest path.

(8) Be careful, the wide path turns right; do not continue straight ahead on the grassy area. Join a wide gravel track.

(9) Follow it to the left until you reach a T-junction with two gravel tracks.

(10) Turn left onto Route de la Grande Fagotière and continue to a road and track junction.

(11) Turn left onto the road (D23a), heading south-east, until you reach a bend marked on the left at an altitude of 229 metres.

(12) Take the field path on the right, continue straight ahead, then cross the Loutre Noire river on the bridge and follow the track to a road junction at altitude 213.

(13) Take the road (D23) on the right until the right-hand bend.

(14) Turn onto the track on the left (Tranchée de Sainte-Marie) and continue straight ahead until you reach a road.

(15) Cross the small meadow and continue straight ahead until you reach a road.

(16) Turn left onto this road until you reach another road (D23) at a bridge.

(17) Continue right on this road, crossing the bridge. The road becomes the D23a or Rue Haute and leads to the church and car park (S/E).

The signposted paths and tracks no longer exist. You often have to navigate by bearing through the woods. Set off early!
