Description of the walk

Departure from the square in front of the church in Nougein.

(S/E) Take the road south towards the Marcillac factory. Continue along this road, leaving the path to the Belvédère du Busatier on your left. Pass in front of the Cheminée d'Équilibre.

(1) Turn left onto the path towards the Jardins de Bardot. After about 20 metres, at the first intersection, leave this path and descend to the right. Pass over the penstock that carries water from the Marcillac reservoir to the power plant on the banks of the Dordogne.
At the intersection with the old Roman road, continue downhill and pass under the ruins of a drying shed.
The fountain on the right is also worth a quick detour.

(2) Take the path towards the entrance to the Bardot gardens (close the gate behind you). Walk up through the garden and exit through the other gate. Walk back up the fairly steep path.

(3) Take a detour to the Maquisards cave, then return to the forest path which zigzags upwards through rocky scree.

(4) At the intersection with the old paved Roman road, turn right to continue climbing.

(5) At the (restored) drying shed, turn left and walk up to admire the magnificent view of the Dordogne Gorges from the Roc du Busatier.

(6) Then descend the forest path.

(5) Continue along the path beyond the drying shed.

(7) At the first intersection (just before the path crosses the Ogaries stream), take the path on the left towards Nougein. Climb up to the small church of Nougein by taking a small street on the left (S/E).

This route is not very busy, except when arriving at the viewpoint accessible by car. It is worth noting that it is also preferable to park there and start from this point. I followed the advice in the route description and parked at the church in front of a house, whose charming owners allowed me to park there, as it cannot really be called a car park. They do not understand that the route does not start from the car park 500 metres further down.

A beautiful hike that climbs steeply at times between the rocks, but nothing insurmountable. Suitable for children over 7/8 years old.
Beautiful forest, beautiful view, beautiful walk. If you're curious, climb up to the church tower to see its beautiful bell with its history inscribed on it. Carefully and gently, you can ring it to appreciate the beauty of its sound. I do mean gently, this is not a warning bell! Be respectful. The church is open and if you respect the place, it will remain so for a long time to come. The church itself is very traditional. And as it is open to the elements, swallows have taken possession of it! It sings, whistles and chirps. Swallows have the peculiarity of being very talkative. What a magnificent bird... fast and elegant.
Enjoy your walk.

Hike through the woods. Only one viewpoint. Everything else is hidden by dense vegetation.
Between points 3 and 4, the route has changed, so follow the markings.

We split this hike into two parts over the course of the day. In the morning, we set off from the car park, Bardot's garden (1), the fountain (2), the Maquisards' cave (3), which is only about 50 metres off the trail (with just one slightly risky passage above a small ravine), the drying room and the Roc du Busatier (6). We went to get our picnic from the car in the car park (about 500 metres away) and returned to Roc du Busatier, where there are two picnic tables. For this morning hike, we covered 6.3 km in 2 hours and 10 minutes (including photo breaks). As the climb up to Roc du Busatier is a little steep (especially after the Bardot garden), I think it is indeed safer to do this hike in the direction indicated in the description. It's really worth it, it's very pretty!
In the afternoon, we set off again from Roc du Busatier to do the second part of the route, but in the opposite direction to the description. We headed towards Nougein, crossed the village and visited the adorable little church. Please note that the shortcut indicated on the map that joins the PR is not passable (the path is overgrown with tall grass). So we went back via point S/E. Then, from point 7, we followed the Ses Agaries stream (not Ogaries) along a forest track that took us back to Roc du Busatier. This part of the walk was very easy, and we enjoyed a few small waterfalls and a welcome breath of fresh air on this hot day.We covered 4.4 km in the afternoon in about 1 hour and 15 minutes (including photo breaks). Definitely worth doing!

Very good hike, suitable for families with young children (aged 6 and above), the cave passage is a little tricky when dry but possible.
Very beautiful views.
Do not do it in reverse as the descent is difficult (slippery).
I highly recommend it.

A fairly short hike, but beware of the return trip, which is a long climb.

The gardens are sublime, and the view of the Dordogne is breathtaking.

A must-do hike.

I think this hike should be classified as "moderate" in terms of difficulty, because from Bardot's garden onwards, the path climbs almost continuously and is very steep in places. Visiting the Marquisats cave requires caution due to the fairly rough terrain, as there are rocks to climb over. But it's a very interesting hike.
