Departure from the square in front of the church in Nougein.
(S/E) Take the road south towards the Marcillac factory. Continue along this road, leaving the path to the Belvédère du Busatier on your left. Pass in front of the Cheminée d'Équilibre.
(1) Turn left onto the path towards the Jardins de Bardot. After about 20 metres, at the first intersection, leave this path and descend to the right. Pass over the penstock that carries water from the Marcillac reservoir to the power plant on the banks of the Dordogne.
At the intersection with the old Roman road, continue downhill and pass under the ruins of a drying shed.
The fountain on the right is also worth a quick detour.
(2) Take the path towards the entrance to the Bardot gardens (close the gate behind you). Walk up through the garden and exit through the other gate. Walk back up the fairly steep path.
(3) Take a detour to the Maquisards cave, then return to the forest path which zigzags upwards through rocky scree.
(4) At the intersection with the old paved Roman road, turn right to continue climbing.
(5) At the (restored) drying shed, turn left and walk up to admire the magnificent view of the Dordogne Gorges from the Roc du Busatier.
(6) Then descend the forest path.
(5) Continue along the path beyond the drying shed.
(7) At the first intersection (just before the path crosses the Ogaries stream), take the path on the left towards Nougein. Climb up to the small church of Nougein by taking a small street on the left (S/E).
