On the D37, after entering Portiragnes, turn to cross the Canal du Midi at the Portiragnes lock. Park (please note that the car park is unattended).
(S/E) Follow the canal eastwards. Where possible, stick to the path alongside the cycle path. Walk to the port of Cassafières, home to the "Le Boat" leisure boat company.
(1) Walk along the port until you reach the paved road (heading south). Turn right onto the paved road (Chemin de Port de Cassafière) until you reach a T-junction.
(2) Turn left and take a path on the right between the tamarisk trees. You will come to a canal, which you will need to follow, crossing it to keep on the right bank. The path is poorly marked but passable. This section is towards the sea (south).
(3) Stay on the dyke and head towards the campsite (mobile homes), which you will need to follow (still on the edge of the marsh, on the dyke) until you reach the beach.
(4) Cross the seaside resort from east to west. Walkers can choose between the footpaths (marked) or the beach itself, with their feet in the water.
(5) At the west beach car park, go as close as possible to the marsh to take the path on the dyke that runs alongside it. Follow it to the pumping station.
(6) Go around the pumping station and turn left onto the path that continues along the marsh. You will stay on this path for a while. When you reach a dirt car park, continue straight ahead, leaving the flood control gates on your right (difficult to pass during rare flood events). Return to the path on the dyke. At the end of the path, marked by two concrete blocks, take the dirt track opposite and turn right at the end.
(7) Take the paved road to the right. At the stop sign, turn left to reach the Portiragnes lock car park (S/E).
