Arreau walks

This circular route starting from Jézeau follows a clearly signposted path. The ascent features varying gradients with some fairly steep sections, but nothing technical or complicated. The return is much easier along a very wide path with superb views of the Pyrenees. The alternative route takes you through a horse paddock: see the Practical Information section for guidance on how to behave on this part of the route.

This is a beautiful hike, the first part of which takes you through lovely pine forests. You can then admire a superb panorama of the Aure valley on the south side, not to mention the highlight of the show, an incomparable view of the Arbizon.

Fourth stage of the Ténarèze: this section of the route takes you back to the GR®105 from Fréchet-Aure. The route continues through Camous, a picturesque village with a rich mining heritage. You will then take a path towards Ilhet, following the old railway line, an industrial relic that adds a touch of nostalgia to the hike. The walk continues to Sarrancolin, the end point of this stage.

Third stage of the Ténarèze. From Ancizan, follow the GR® 105 north-east, crossing summer pastures and beech woods with views of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre. After Cadéac, the trail leads to Arreau, the former capital of the Aure Valley. Then take the old railway line (now disused), a flat path lined with ferns, to Fréchet-Aure. This balcony village, listed as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", offers a panorama of the Pyrenees and a preserved pastoral heritage.

A lovely walk taking you from Bordères-Louron to Ris, Cazaux-Debat and Ilhan.You’ll cross from the southern slope to the northern slope, following some lovely stony paths.There are several lovely viewpoints along the route.This hike should be undertaken in the absence of rain and heavy snowfall.The walk is classified as difficult, as some basic navigation skills are required, for example between points (2) and (3).

Petite balade facile au départ de Camous.

An easy hike that takes you on a circular route around the Hourquette. Dominant position 70% of the time, some beautiful views, passage at Lac d'Arou (where the cows bathe) and crossing of a few streams. Important: for this hike, it is best to use "Open Street Map Rando", which offers more trails than IGN. However, it is impossible to get lost as all the landmarks are visible while walking and serve as reference points.

On a mountain often overlooked in favour of its neighbour, the Arbizon, or the 3,000-metre peaks of the Néouvielle, this hike offers stunning views. The route through the mountain pastures to Lac d’Arou and then over scree to the summit requires good experience of walking on ground that gives way easily underfoot. Please take full note of the comments regarding the mountainous terrain. This hike should only be undertaken when there is no snow!

A long circular route passing through a small village typical of the Hautes-Pyrénées. The route passes beneath small peaks that can be easily climbed, depending on your fitness level.

From the Col d'Aspin, this short round-trip hike will take you along the ridges between the Campan and Aure valleys for a superb view of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, the Arbizon and the Perdiguère peaks.

On holiday in the Pyrenees, the weather is fine and dry, so why not take a walk to the Col d'Aspin with our two children (aged two and a half and five and a half).

A snowshoe route offering views over the entire Payolle area. This hike can, of course, be undertaken in summer.However, do not head towards Plo del Naou in foggy conditions or when snow is falling, as there are no landmarks (it is a very large summer pasture area). A good sense of direction is essential (especially after the summit).

A walk starting from Lake Payolle towards Lake Arou.

A lovely summit accessible from Les Granges de Camoudiet, returning via the Petit Lac d’Arou. A circular hike on unmarked paths. A good sense of direction, map-reading skills and the .gpx track will be useful on this route. Best undertaken when there is no fog.

A lovely circular walk which takes you from the Cabanes de Camoudiet up to the Pic de Crabe via the ridge, past Lac d’Arou, where you can admire the high peaks. To complete this circular loop, you need to know how to navigate. The GPX track may prove useful

A fairly long circular hike from Sarrancolin. This ascent to the Col de Beyrède from the Arreau Valley allows you to rediscover the old paths that once enabled shepherds to drive their flocks up to the summer pastures. Of course, some sections of these paths have been modified by motorised vehicles.Please note: this walk is unmarked from (3). The GPX track may prove useful, particularly from (10) to (14).

A lovely hike done clockwise for a gradual and gentler climb. With two options available, this hike can be adapted to suit different levels. The aim is to meet up at the Collantigue hut to share a meal and a rest.

Climb up to this beautiful hut, which is in perfect condition. It is closed and private. However, there is a small hut in good condition available below this spot. Please note: part of the hike is unmarked, so a good sense of direction is necessary.This hike can be done in average snow conditions. However, this requires even better orientation skills.

A lovely snowshoe hike from the Payolle marble quarry. This is an unmarked trail, so a basic sense of direction is required.N.B. In some places, the IGN map is not up to date. The GPX track can be very useful.

Hike along trails starting from Payolle, through the forest to the Col d'Aspin, then following the ridges of the Plo del Naou. At the summit, you can enjoy an exceptional panorama of the Campan and Arreau valleys, part of the Pyrenees mountain range, as well as the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and the Arbizon.

Magnificent view of the barns, extensive panorama of the Rioumajou Valley, Lustou, the Louron peaks, Hourgade and the village of Saint-Lary-Soulan. On the other side, view of the Plat d'Adet and the Aulon Valley.

The Crête de Bassia from the Col de Beyrède offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Baronnies de Bigorre to the north and the Pyrenees mountain range from Arbizon to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre to the south.

A short walk starting from Sarrancolin, offering a beautiful view of the Aure Valley and leading to the Pla de la Peyre. A significant climb and little shade towards the end.

A lovely, easy hike from the Payolle campsite. This hike can be done on snowshoes. Le Courtaou near Les Esclozes has been restored. The Les Esclozes hut is maintained. A water supply channel is operational. This place was once an important settlement, as evidenced by the number of collapsed huts and barns. The route appears to correspond tothe PR® (no. 19), which is clearly marked in the opposite direction to the description.

A short hike for an afternoon in the forest before reaching the summit with excellent views.

A short walk through the wilderness, passing close to Courtaou d'Artigussy and Les Esclozes. A few leytès (traditional milk coolers) and building ruins bear witness to the area's former pastoral activity.

Snowshoe hike, always in open terrain. The spectacular scenery is present throughout.This hike can be undertaken even when there is no snow. However, the route will be slightly different. You will simply need to follow various animal tracks to reach the pass and the summit.

A hike without too much elevation gain that leads to Pic de Mont Aspet (1,849 m), where you will have a magnificent 360° view.

A very beautiful hike through the summer pastures of Aulon. Best done after the transhumance so you can enjoy the many herds of cows and sheep. You will pass by huts, walk along and cross streams, and walk through meadows full of flowers.

A beautiful ridge hike offering superb views of the Aure Valley, to be done on foot or with snowshoes. No fewer than four peaks along the route, a real rollercoaster ride in the Pyrenees.

A large circular route passing through Soulan from Saint-Lary-Soulan, taking tracks, paths and the road through Soulan, marked in yellow. Signs indicate this large circular route and also a shortcut for the small one. The access path to the circular route is steep but the rest is easy.

An easy hike apart from the climb to Sailhan, which is steep but on a good, very passable path. Yellow markings are faded or non-existent in places, but the Xs indicating the wrong direction are clearly visible.

A balcony route leading from Saint-Lary-Soulan to Tramezaïgues, its Romanesque church, its castle ruins and back via the balcony on the other side of the valley to Vignec.Some pretty views and villages.Note: the hike is called Chemin des Traques by the Tourist Office and is marked in yellow all along the way.

The second stage of the Ténarèze, at the bottom of the Aure valley, runs alongside the Neste river through fields. In places, the path widens, suggesting the trace of the old drovers' road, particularly near the Nourde footbridge. A peaceful route that passes through several small rural villages set on a plain ideal for resting herds before the climb to the summer pastures.

In the heart of the Hautes-Pyrénées, between the Aure and Louron valleys, the charming village of Azet awaits you for this short family walk. On foot or by mountain bike, you will discover all the charm of the Pyrenean landscapes, their scents, their scenery and their local flora and fauna. Enjoy the coolness of the torrents and streams that flow through the pastures. Have a great walk!

Pass by the Puits de la Pindorle, then follow the ridge to Cap de Castillon. 360° view of the ridge from the Signal de Bassia. Caution: steep descent from Cap de Castillon.

This long hike, varied by its succession of landscapes, will allow you to discover three lakes tucked away in a mountainous world enveloped in silence and solitude. A hike for nature lovers.

The view of the mountains and the valley, at the top of Génos, is superb, and the little paths are very charming, with a section along the shore of Lake Génos-Loudenvielle. Thiswalk is also featured on the Vallée du Louron website.

the route is no longer marked or maintained!between points 4 and 5, there may be sections of around 20 metres of tall grass between June and September, but it remains passable all year round. The path may be muddy 100 metres before point 5. The circular is accessible on foot or by bike. You will discover Rebouc, Hèches and Héchettes, villages that have remained almost unchanged since 1820-1860, as evidenced by the inscriptions carved in marble on the doors. This route will also allow you to discover the winding and sometimes steep paths that connected each of these villages. Between villages, forests and meadows, the walk will be bucolic!

This route is no longer signposted, but a GPS or map will suffice. This beginner-level route presents no difficulties apart from the elevation gain. It will allow you to explore the hills of Rebouc whilst staying on a tarmac road that is very quiet. Ideal for getting some fresh air, requiring no special equipment and suitable for all fitness levels.

The route is no longer marked or maintained!!!Between May and October: tall, dense ferns between points 4 and 6 make the route very difficult. A summary of what the valley entrance has to offer: breathtaking 360° views, highlighting the incredible alignment of the valley. Discover steep paths, fords, shaded areas, mossy areas, ridges, meadows, forests and scrubby moorland, ending with a passage along a turbulent stream with multiple waterfalls.
