Description of the walk

Departure from the car park in the centre of the village of Dabo, near the church.

(S/E) Take Rue de la Zorn, heading west. At the first fork, turn right onto Rue du Ballerstein. At the second fork, continue right along the same street.

(1) After No. 29, turn left onto the path marked with a red disc. The path descends gently through a magnificent pine forest.

(2) Cross a track and continue on the Red Disc marked trail. At the next junction, continue straight ahead and descend into the Zorn valley.

(3) Cross a forest road and descend opposite towards the river (Red Disc). Cross the Zorn river and reach the Table de la Paie rock. Retrace your steps.

(3) Turn right onto the forest road (Yellow Triangle). Stay parallel to the Zorn river, ignore a path on the left and, at the next fork, turn right. Cross a tributary of the Zorn and, at the crossroads (Kleinmuhl), continue for a few metres.

(4) Take the path on the left that goes uphill. Stay on this path until you reach the Jaegerhof forest house. Be careful, the path often changes direction and is crossed by other paths, so stay on the blue disc markings.

(5) You will see the Jaegerhof forest house about a hundred metres to your right (information sign). Continue south-west on the forest road (blue disc) and go around the Hochkopf on the right.

(6) At the crossroads, follow the blue disc markings to the right (south-east). Pass at the foot of the Salzleckkopf.

(7) Then turn right (south), still following the blue disc markings. Head east and pass at the foot of the Langhardtkopf to reach the Croix du Loup.

(8) Continue along the forest road to the left, north-east then north (blue disc).

(9) At the hunting lodge junction, turn left onto Rue du Zimmerfeld. At the fork, go left.

(10) Follow Rue des Pins to the left and, after a few metres, turn right onto the path that descends towards the village cemetery in Dabo. Turn right at the cemetery and head for the car park near the church (S/E).

Practical information

Most of the trails used are maintained and marked by the Club Vosgien, which consists of 120 sections spread across the massif. To support them, don't hesitate to join one of the sections near you.

Water point: Village of Dabo near the church

In the nearby area

(3) Table de la Paie rock: Information panel installed by the Dabo section of the Club Vosgien. Table on which forestry workers were paid in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

(5) Jaegerhof MF: a beautiful information panel at the crossroads near the path to the MF. A major meeting place in 1983 between Presidents Mitterrand and Kohl.

(9) You can continue straight ahead to join the path that leads to the Dabo rock, which is well worth a visit.

A pleasant hike with a beautiful spot around the river, but the climb afterwards is very monotonous.
Very few attractive views except at the end when you arrive at Dabo and its rock.
Please note that the path may be closed during the hunting season.

Superb hike starting from Dabo in very hot weather.
Very pleasant paths and a pleasant surprise with the Zorn, which allowed us to cool off in a bucolic setting.
Magnificent view of Dabo, which you can climb at the end of the hike.
Thank you to the person who edited the hike.

We went hiking in autumn weather. It was a pleasant hike with interesting views of Rocher de Dabo, the Zorn Valley, and places steeped in history such as Rocher de la Paie, the Jaegerhoff forest house, and Croix du Loup.
Note that we started from Rocher de la Paie, right next to the parking area for two to three cars, which allows you to start the hike uphill and return downhill. The climb to Croix du Loup is very gradual and not difficult.
It's worth noting that, without rushing, it took us 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete the tour.

There were strong gusts of wind today, so we were alone. We were shocked when we arrived at Jaegerhof: a decomposing donkey's head (recognisable by its ears) just behind the tree bearing the forest house sign and an unidentifiable, completely cleaned skull on the edge of the path a little further on. What a lovely atmosphere! Are hunters now targeting donkeys too? This put a damper on our enthusiasm for the pretty clearing below the Rocher de la Paie. We made a short detour to the Rocher du Dabo, where we thought we were going to be blown away... Fortunately, we were able to have our picnic at the Jaegerhof sheltered from the wind: thank you, Club Vosgien.

A beautiful hike starting from Rocher de la Paye if you prefer to start with an ascent and descend at the end, and to enjoy Dabo for a picnic or restaurant break. The climb to Rocher de Dabo is a must-see.

A very beautiful hike, very well marked, with a very good map/terrain match. A beautiful view of Rocher de DABO when arriving at the hunting lodge. We took a detour via Rocher de Saint-Léon. Superb 360° view.

The route is relatively average because a significant part of it is on forest roads rather than paths, and there are few viewpoints, except for the one on the Dabo rock at the end of the route.
The route is sheltered from the wind and mostly shaded, so it is best done in very good weather or when it is windy.
It took us 3 hours, including breaks.
It is nothing like the Dieu Baldur hike on the other side, which is much more enjoyable.

A lovely hike, with few people on the trail this Easter Saturday. Picnic at Jaegerhof in the Vosges Club hut. Thank you to them for the facilities and signposting.

Hike completed on Tuesday, 26 January 2021 in the snow... A very beautiful hike in the snow... Very beautiful upon arrival at Jaegerhof. In some places there was 25 cm of snow, in others there was very little. I took the trail between km 11 and km 12. A beautiful winter walk for photos and tranquillity... To be repeated in summer!

The route is well marked by the Vosges club. The calculation of time and distance is correct.
