Discovering the Postolle

Departure from the Church of Saint Joseph and Saint Fiacre in La Postolle.

(S/E) Head north and go up Rue de Vermont, leaving the church on your right. Ignore the street coming from the right and pass in front of a well.

(1) At the end of the paved section, take the path on the right. Ignore the paths on the left and continue east on flat ground.

(2) At the fork, take the left path which continues east, then turns north-east.

(3) Turn right at an acute angle and go down the road. At the crossroads, turn right onto a path that soon joins the road. Follow it to the right and pass the cemetery on your left.

(4) At the war memorial, continue along the road. At the next fork (Bolée wind turbine), follow Rue de l'Église to the right until you reach the church (S/E).

Saint Joseph and Saint Fiacre Church (S/E).

Well 30 to 45 metres deep, in front (1).

Bois de Mainbeuf: on the edge overlooking the village, you can see cave dwellings (currently inaccessible) on the left and then on the right. In summer, they may be hidden by vegetation.

On the path: varied flora, sometimes traces of wild boar attracted by the acorns they are very fond of.

Calvary, between (3) and (4): this is a cross from the old cemetery that used to be next to the church.

The war memorial (4) was built by a former municipal employee, Mr Jarry, who also built the Calvary mentioned above. The monument was inaugurated in 1983 on the 50th anniversary of the Maginot Line. There is a plaque that was previously installed on the old town hall.

Bolée windmill, after (4). Built in 1898, this is a metal structure with a total height of 17.5 metres. It is made of iron, cast iron, steel and bronze. The wheel with blades at the top of the tower has a diameter of 2.6 metres. The windmill was restored twice by the AREL (Association pour la Restauration de l'Éolienne de La Postolle) and then by the municipality. It is the first windmill to be listed as a Historic Monument of France and is one of the last of its kind in France. In 1998, the municipality celebrated the windmill's centenary.

Linden tree, between (4) and (S/E), planted under Henry IV more than 400 years ago, in 1598, to celebrate the Edict of Nantes. It has been awarded the Arbre Remarquable de France (Remarkable Tree of France) label.
