In a single day, a 18 km ride starting from Maisse railway station, heading straight to point 9 (Cyclop) and Milly-la-Forêt (points 4, 3 and 2), whilst still taking the time to visit Milly (the market hall, the wash house… splendid!). Arrival on the 11.00 train, return on the 16.24 train. (Timetables are subject to change – please check beforehand, as there are few trains).
The start and finish are on sandy ground where walking is quite tiring.
I was really keen to see the Cyclop. However, between Covid, renovation works and incompetence, we found ourselves facing a barbed-wire fenced-off area, cluttered with scaffolding, without a single photo, without the slightest explanation, without the slightest apology. A building site off-limits to the public, that’s all. Anywhere else, when a monumental work of art is being restored, they make an effort to explain what’s happening and show some pictures. And they give an expected completion date!
In short, thank goodness the forest is beautiful – especially in this sunny spring – and that Milly is such a lovely village. The walk is definitely worth the trip from Paris!
