To Neuschwanstein Castle and Marienbrücke

This circular walk takes us along an easily accessible footpath up to the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle. Along the way, we have great views of Hohenschwangau Castle opposite. From the Marienbrücke bridge, we can enjoy a breathtaking view of the castle and the surrounding Alps. The return route follows a wide forest path along the summer toboggan run – ideal for nature and culture lovers. This path is also much less frequented than the paved main path.

Description of the walk

Start: Car park P2 Royal Castles (subject to a fee)

(S/E) From the car park, we follow the signs to Neuschwanstein Castle. The route follows an asphalt path uphill.

(1) Then we stand in front of the beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle. A visit is definitely worthwhile, but reservations must be made in advance.

(2) From the castle, we follow the signs to Marienbrücke. It is worth making a detour here to enjoy the beautiful view of the castle and the mountains behind it. We then follow the signs back to the village of Hohenschwangau via the toboggan run. The route takes us along a wide forest path, some of which is quite steep. We rejoin the path we took uphill earlier.

(S/E) From here, we walk back to the car park.
