To reach Vira (Gambarogno) by public transport
- By train Magadino-Vira station
- By bus: Vira-Paese stop.
The hike starts in Vira (Gambarogno) at the post office and Casa Comunale.
(S) From the Vira post office, cross Via J.A. Pitzker and take Strada d'Indéman opposite. Go under the railway line and, at the bend, return to the start of the trail. (Signposts).
Note: to summarise the route to point 4, a well-marked trail avoids the winding Indéman road. (Signposts).
(1) Turn right onto the path that climbs up to Fosano, crossing the Strada d'Indéman. In the hamlet of Fosano, the path joins the Strada d'Indéman at a hotel called "La Fosanella".
(2) Cross the Indéman road after the restaurant "La Fosanella", turn right and continue uphill, first via steps and then again on a path that joins the Strada d'Indéman in a hairpin bend.
(3) Continue along the path, which will cross Strada d'Indéman several times.
(4) Take Strada d'Indéman to the "Monti di Fosano, Bv. Piazzogna" bus stop.
(5) Leave the Strada d'Indéman. Heading west, take the small road that serves the hamlets of Monti Piazzogna and Monti di Vairano (dead end).
(6) After the first bend on this road and at the entrance to the hamlet of Monti Piazzogna, turn left onto the small path that starts with a few steps (signposted Alpe di Neggia). Walk through the woods and join the Alpe de Sambarsciolo.
(7) Continue south until you reach a crossroads.
(8) Leave the path leading to Monte Gambarogno on your right. Follow the signs for Alpe di Neggia. You will easily reach Passo di Neggia and your evening accommodation (E).
