To reach the starting point, from the La Laupie roundabout (D6), head towards La Bâtie-Rolland, Old Village (D219). Turn right at the first junction, towards Old Village, cemetery (D219A). At the sign for La Laupie (Old Village), carry on straight ahead and follow the road until you come to a grassy car park on the left, below the cemetery.
(S/E) Continue up the road. At the fork, turn right and you’ll come to a square with a wayside cross on your right.
(1) Head towards the village centre and take the first alleyway on the right. This leads downhill until you reach a paved slanting street. Turn left and follow it until you see the tarmac road at the end. Do not join it, but turn left up the small steps. You will reach the street leading to the castle entrance on the left. Carry on to the right, cross the square and you’ll come to the wayside cross.
(1) Facing the wayside cross, turn left onto the street, which quickly turns into a grassy path. This gently sloping path passes close to the Chapel of Saint-Jacques.
(2) Take a short detour to visit the chapel, which is on the left of the path.
(2) On your return, continue down the slope, pass the entrance to the right of a house and reach a fork in the path. Turn left onto this small, level road which runs below the Old Village. At the junction with the bridge over the Roubion on your right, carry on along the road opposite. Proceed with caution on this busier stretch. Join the first road on the left (D219A).
(3) Go up this road, pass a hairpin bend and reach a crossroads with a cross. Turn off onto the first road on the left and reach a hairpin bend.
(4) Ignore the road branching off to the right and take the paved slanting street with a few steps opposite instead. Return to the staircase you took earlier, go up to the right and, once on the street, turn right. Pass the chapel and continue to the square. Turn right to take a small vaulted passageway, go down the stairs and rejoin the route you have already taken. Continue straight ahead to reach the car park below the cemetery (S/E).
