Description of the walk

Park in the church car park in Lapleau.

Yellow markings

(S/E) Take the D16 on the right, passing the church on your left to leave Lapleau

(1) After passing the holiday camp, cross carefully and take the Chemin de la Nauche on the left, which turns into a forest path. You will reach a fork at the edge of a meadow.

(2) Continue straight ahead along the edge of the meadow, then turn left to enter the undergrowth and rejoin the D16 at a bend.

(3) Cross the road with great caution as visibility is poor to reach a path opposite that leads to the banks of the Luzège. Continue to the right along the river, then move away from it by climbing to the right to reach a small road.

(4) Turn left onto it towards the viaduct and you will reach a small car park.

(5) Head left to take the path that descends to the Himalayan footbridge.

(6) Cross the footbridge and take the path that climbs back up to the old railway line at an old water tank.

(7) Turn right to go through the tunnel, then cross the Viaduc des Rochers Noirs via the old railway line. Return to the small car park.

(5) Continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with the path leading up to Luzège.

(4) Keep to the left of the road.

(8) Turn left onto a path to climb up to Vasséjoux, then take the RD89E on the right to cross it.

(9) Once you reach the end, turn right onto a path to rejoin the road you left earlier below.

(10) Turn left at the hairpin bend and follow the road until you reach a sharp left-hand bend.

(11) Leave the road and take a track on the right to reach a crossroads at the entrance to Puyméjoux.

(12) Take the path on the right.

(13) Cross the Simendèle (stream) and follow the path on the right leading to a junction on the D89.

(14) Cross the junction, heading right towards Avenue du Viaduc, which leads to Lapleau Town Hall and Post Office. Take the D16 on the right, make a short detour to the left via Rue de l'Étang Noir and return to the D16, opposite the church car park (S/E).

Well-detailed itinerary, somewhat challenging route due to the elevation gain, a slightly difficult section overlooking the Luzège (not for those who are afraid of heights). Very nice tunnel and viaduct, beautiful heritage sites, and the tunnel remains a surprising experience! The end of the hike is less interesting, but the circular route is still enjoyable.
