(S/E) From Place du Général de Gaulle, head north-west towards Rue Esquermoise. Follow this street for about 40 metres. Turn left into Rue Saint-Étienne. Pass in front of the Salle du Nouveau Siècle and continue right along Rue de l’Hôpital Militaire, then turn left into Rue de Tenremonde until you reach Square Dutilleul.
(1) Walk along the right-hand side of the square, then along Quai du Wault, and carefully cross Square Daubenton to reach the Canal de la Deule.
(2) Without crossing the canal, turn left onto Boulevard de la Liberté, then turn immediately right to cross the Jardin Vauban in its entirety until you reach the footbridge, which you should take.
(3) At the bottom of the footbridge, facing the canal, turn right and follow the canal for 200 m, then turn right, heading due north, onto a path through the woodland via the Allée du Train de Loos to the Canal de la Tortue. Before reaching this canal, turn right into the Allée Catherine Chamuzard and stay on the path until you reach the tree-top adventure park’s reception hut.
(4) Turn right and enter the outer enclosure of the citadel. Take the Voies des Combattants on the left and walk around Lille Citadel to its main entrance.
(5) Turn right to leave the citadel. Turn right again before the Colonne Bouffiers. After about a hundred metres, turn left and cross Cita-Park. On the other side, follow Avenue du43e Régiment d'Infanterie to the right.
(6) At the junction just before a bridge, turn left and walk along the canal on your right. Cross the Esplanade du Champ de Mars then turn right to reach the Pont Napoléon.
(7) Cross the bridge over the canal. On the other side, follow the Façade de l'Esplanade to the right. At the traffic lights, cross the road to the left and take Rue du Lieutenant Colpin. Continue straight ahead, cross Rue Royale and continue straight on into Rue Voltaire.
(8) Halfway down Rue Voltaire, turn right into Passage des Trois Anguilles. Then turn left into Rue Négrier, then right into Rue de la Collégiale. Continue straight ahead, passing Place du Concert, Rue de la Monnaie, Rue des Chats Bossus, Rue de la Chaussée and Rue de la Bourse in turn, before reaching Place du Général de Gaulle (S/E).
