The walk starts at the car park located at a hairpin bend on the D53 just before reaching the village of Théus (Hautes-Alpes) from the Durance valley.
The entire route is marked with yellow PR® signs.
(S/E) Leave the car park and cross the stream to reach a junction immediately. Turn left and follow the path uphill, crossing the stream several times via small footbridges.
After about a kilometre, you will begin to see the first formations of the Demoiselles Coiffées (also known as the Cheminées de Fées), to the left and right of the path. You will emerge onto the Route du Mont Colombis (D53a). Turn left for a final view of the Salle du Bal des Demoiselles Coiffées and the Durance valley. Continue to a picnic area located about 100 m away.
(1) Return to the D53a by heading up to the right and follow it for 3.5 km.
(2) For the last kilometre, veer slightly off the road by cutting right through a small pine forest dotted with numerous anthills. Return to the road and continue to the right.
(3) After the first set of pylons, leave the path on your right (which you will take on the way back) and head towards the Croix Choureille. The view makes the 3 km of tarmac well worth it.
(4) Return to the road.
(3) Take the path on the left running alongside the fence of the antenna building. Head straight down, due south, along the Échine de l'Âne.
(5) At the junction, continue straight on. Keep to the right at the next junction and begin a series of hairpin bends.
(6) Ignore the path on the left leading to Noutaret and continue to the right. The final bends take you back to the ford and then to the car park where you started (S/E).
