A sign after the hamlet of Poingt Ravier indicates that the return route from Albanette to Valloire is closed.
At (10), only a pedestrian crossing remains. On arrival in Valloire, a municipal decree is displayed indicating that traffic on this road is prohibited, particularly for pedestrians, and that failure to comply with this decree may result in a fine.

A lovely circular walk from Valloire that climbs through the hamlets overlooking the village with views of the Aiguille Noire, then along the ski runs to reach the pretty ridge separating the Valloire and Valmeinier valleys. After a small summit at 2,600 m offering a stunning view of Mont Thabor, the Aiguilles d’Arves and, behind them, the Galibier and the Écrins peaks (Meije, Râteau, Pelvoux, etc.), the descent takes you via the Pas des Griffes and the hamlets of Mérégers and Les Selles along a very pleasant, smooth trail to complete the circular route and return to Valloire.

A challenging hike with a significant elevation gain (all in one go) and some technical sections with exposed sections.
There are a few sections where you’ll need to take care. As a reward, a spectacular view awaits you, including, in particular, Mont Blanc, the Aiguilles d’Arves and the Écrins Glacier. You’ll also enjoy a sense of tranquillity at the top of the ridges, with a constant 360° view.

Although it looks like a large hill from its south-eastern slope, the ascent of the Aiguille de l’Épaisseur is very physically demanding in its final section, from the refuge, with 970 m of elevation gain over 3 km, representing an average gradient of over 35 per cent. However, it probably offers the finest view of the Aiguilles d’Arves you can get, not to mention a magnificent 360° panorama.
This hike is not very popular, which is hardly surprising given the final ascent. It is reserved for seasoned hikers who are not too prone to vertigo.
