comment from a hiker on 02/08/2023
A sign after the hamlet of Poingt Ravier indicates that the return route from Albanette to Valloire is closed.
At (10), only a pedestrian crossing remains. On arrival in Valloire, a municipal decree is displayed indicating that traffic on this road is prohibited, particularly for pedestrians, and that failure to comply with this decree may result in a fine.
From Grange Bernard to the Refuge de Terre Rouge
First stage of the Petit tour du Mont Thabor hike
The Combe des Aiguilles d'Arves
This is a particularly pleasant hike, allowing you to discover the great cirque formed by these three Savoyard peaks, with the added bonus of a stop at the very friendly Refuge des Aiguilles.
Lac de Pramol from Col d'Albanne
A short family walk from the Col d'Albanne to the pretty Pramol Lake.
This route is not particularly difficult and runs almost exclusively through the forest. It can be enjoyed alone or in a group.
Grands Lacs via the Terre Rouge refuge
This hike consists of two loops that meet at the Terre Rouge refuge.
The lower loop allows you to admire the Neuvache valley from a balcony trail as you climb. On the descent, the route often runs alongside the torrent itself.
The upper loop takes place in a more mineral environment at the base of the western slope of Mont Thabor.
The markings for these loops are varied.
Circular of the lakes in the Neuvache valley above Valmeinier
A magnificent hike along the Neuvache river, which will take you to Lac des Glaciers in a magnificent alpine cirque dominated by Roche du Chardonnet, Pointe des Angelières, Mont Thabor and Pic du Thabor via Lac Vert, Lac Curtalès, Lac Rond, Lac Cornu, Lac Bri and an unnamed lake. The diversity of the environments, including forests, mountain pastures and mineral landscapes, is what makes this magnificent but demanding hike so interesting. It is aimed at experienced hikers who are used to long walks on varied terrain and are accustomed to navigating by map and visually, particularly between Lac Bri and Lac des Glaciers and at the start of the descent from the latter.Visorando app recommended.
At the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves - Basse du Gerbier
A superb hike in a magnificent setting at the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves. The coolness of the torrent, the landscape ravaged by erosion, flower-filled mountain pastures, the whistling of marmots and shy chamois complete the picture.
A comfortable walk has been created passing through (1) and (2).
Ascent beneath the Aiguilles d'Arves
Close to the Aiguilles d'Arves, starting from the Relais 1900 above Chalmieu (Montrond), there is a climb to reach a point slightly above Basse du Gerbier. The climb is beautiful and requires some effort to warm up.
The descent can be made via the same route or via the Gros Crey and Bon Ventre ridges (caution: tricky section), which is longer and more exposed.
Refuge de Terre Rouge - Le Prec
This is the last stage of this three-day route, with one last beautiful climb. A final alpine pass, a few lakes, and the return via the Fenêtre du Prec to round off this lovely Tour du Thabor.
Le Grand Galibier
This legendary summit offers spectacular views of the Écrins mountains dominated by La Barre and La Meije, Goléon, the Aiguilles d'Arves, Mont Blanc, Viso, Queyras and the Swiss Valais, where Liskamm and Monte Rosa rise up. It is also a popular area for ibex.
The Pointe des Cerces
Near the Grand Galibier, another beautiful peak in the Cerces massif with an exceptional 360° panorama of the Ecrins, the Thabor, the Aiguilles d'Arves, Mont Blanc, the Viso, etc.
A summit that takes effort to reach but is definitely worth the detour.
An absolutely magnificent hike with a surprise at the summit that encourages meditation.
Circular Cerces via the Col de la Ponsonnière
From Plan Lachat, a circular takes you over three passes (La Ponsonnière, Cerces and Rochilles) and past five lakes (Ponsonnière, Grand Lac, Cerces, Grand Ban and Rond).
The view of Lautaret and the Aiguilles d'Arves is splendid, and the rocks of Pic de la Moulinière and Pointe des Cerces are impressive.
Circular of the lakes in the Cerces massif
This hike takes you on a lovely tour of several lakes in the Cerces massif. Most of the route is above 2,000 metres in altitude.
Lac des Cerces and other lakes
A fantastic hike which, when the weather is fine, allows you to contemplate magnificent landscapes dotted with lakes in infinite shades of blue.
Lac des Cerces - Lacs de la Madeleine via Pointe des Cerces
Day 2 in the Clarée Valley: ascent of Pointe des Cerces (unmarked mountain route), passage to Lac and Source de la Clarée and climb to the second bivouac at Lacs de la Madeleine (off-trail on the final section).
As with the other parts of this circular, this route is intended for experienced hikers who are accustomed to high mountains.
Lacs de la Madeleine - Lac Lavoir via Mont Thabor
Third day of the circular with ascent of Mont Thabor (highest point of the route) via the oldGR® trail along the Roche du Chardonnet ridge and the Valmeinier Glacier, which presents certain difficulties compared to the newGR® route.
As with the other days of the circular, this route is intended for very experienced hikers who are accustomed to high mountains.
