The hamlet of Chareire can be reached from Picherande via the D149, towards Super Besse. Park in the car park at the side of the road.

(S/E) Go to the end of the car park on the side of the lodge and find the Balirando sign for the La Fontaine Salée hike, which this description follows in its entirety. Follow thePR®® direction, continuing along the road so that you pass in front of the lodge. Take the first road on the right, then the path on the right, towards La Morangie. Ignore a path on the right in a bend and arrive at a crossroads.
(1) Turn left. Ignore the path that goes straight ahead in a right-hand bend and, further on, a vague grassy path on the right. You will arrive at a road near a bridge over the Trentaine, at the La Morangie signpost.
(2) Follow the path opposite towards La Fontaine Salée. Arrive between the farm buildings, follow the only path not closed to pedestrians straight ahead, which climbs between rocky blocks. Stay on the upper part of the meadow and arrive at a path.
(3) Follow it to the left. Further on, ignore a path on the left.
(4) When you come out of the woods, stay on the path furthest to the right and follow the edge before entering the undergrowth again. You will arrive at the La Fontaine Salée signpost (information panel).
(5) For a short round trip, turn left towards Pédaire to reach the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Fontaine Salée, via a path built on stilts in the bog.
(6) Leave the glacial cirque by retracing your steps back to the La Fontaine Salée signpost.
(4) Turn left onto the grassy path towards Montagne Haute. Follow the clearly visible markings on small wooden posts in the mountain pastures.
(7) Pass at the foot of the Puy Gros scree. Cross a few footbridges and streams, tributaries of the Trentaine or the Ruisseau de Chadeire. After passing under the Col de Couhay ski lift, you will arrive at a trail intersection with directional signs.

(8) Leave theGR®® and follow the signs to La Geneste on the right until you reach a bog.
(9) Pass to the right of it at the foot of Puy de Paillaret. Cross more streams. Further down, pass a few footbridges and arrive at the D149 road at the La Geneste signpost.
(10) Turn right and walk for about 600 metres along the road towards L'Escudor, then quickly cross it to stay on the wider left-hand side until you reach a path on the left.
(11) Take this path, which soon turns into a pretty trail that follows the road above. Ignore a path on the left. Join the road at the L'Escudor signpost. Ignore the path that climbs to the left and follow the road around the hairpin bend towards Chareire for 150 metres.
(12) Turn onto the path on the left, then immediately turn onto the path on the right. Further on, at the T-junction with a path, turn left. You will come to a small road.
(13) Cross the road and the Chareire stream to follow the path opposite. Pass in front of a covered drinking fountain and you will immediately find the car park (S/E).
