Circular route around Flacey

A pretty little village, with a stream and a mix of forest paths and open stretches. You can cover fewer kilometres by, for example, avoiding the loop around the grassy area.
This route is described for Nordic walking but is also suitable for hiking.

Description of the walk

Park in Flacey, on the road to Pichanges after a left-hand bend, in front of an unused grey-black silo.

(S/E) Head down to the right into the village. Go round it to reach the bridge over the Gueux stream.

(1) Do not cross it, but follow the river on the left. Continue straight ahead across this lovely grassy area. Reach a new bridge.

(2) Cross the bridge and start walking around this large meadow on the left, then return to this point.
Note: this loop is optional.
Do not cross the bridge again but head straight on into Rue du Pré des Saules. At the first junction, turn left onto a wide, white path that climbs uphill. Continue straight on until you reach the edge of the forest.

(3) Turn left at the edge of the forest, then turn right to enter it and reach the railway line.

(4) Turn right to follow the railway line and continue straight on. Cross the D112e road at a place called Combe au Charlon. Stay on the path running alongside the railway line. Reach the end of the path and continue along a narrower track. Cross the Gueux stream and reach a pylon where the track becomes a path again. You will soon reach a Y-junction.

Please note: the water level may sometimes be too high to cross the stream, particularly in winter. In this case, follow the railway line to the bridge and rejoin the path after the bridge. Take care when trains are passing.

(5) Please note: at this point, a GPS or navigation app is recommended to avoid getting lost, as there are several paths. Take the right-hand fork to enter the forest. At the next junction, take the path on the right. Continue in the same south-easterly direction, then leave the forest and, after a gentle descent, join the D112e road at the hamlet of Le Coteau.

(6) Turn immediately left and head slightly uphill. At the first junction, turn right and, at the next one, turn left to join the D112N. Then turn right to return to the starting car park (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 264 m - Car park next to a silo.
  2. 1 : km 0.46 - alt. 246 m - Crossroads before the bridge
  3. 2 : km 0.67 - alt. 246 m - Second bridge
  4. 3 : km 3.05 - alt. 270 m - Edge of the forest.
  5. 4 : km 3.92 - alt. 268 m - Railway line
  6. 5 : km 6.02 - alt. 271 m - Fork in the path, turn right
  7. 6 : km 8.4 - alt. 251 m - Le Coteau
  8. S/E : km 9.35 - alt. 266 m - Car park next to a silo.

Notes

(S/E) There is space behind the car park to do the warm-up exercises.

  • Of course, because parts of the route are in the forest, you should avoid the hunting season unless you have contacted the local hunting society. Otherwise, ask the town hall for the contact details of the chair of the local hunting society to see if it is still possible to go on the date you are planning.
  • You should avoid going the day after heavy rain as the woods can be very muddy.
  • The actual duration is 2 hours and includes not only the walking time but also warm-up exercises, muscle strengthening exercises along the way, and stretching. It is not calculated on the basis of 3.5 km/h as you walk faster when Nordic walking.

Worth a visit

Flacey is a village near the road leading from Dijon to Langres, not far from Dijon (17 km). Its forest borders that of Clenay, where there is a historical landmark known as ‘La fontaine aux lions’, and it is also not far from Norges-la-Ville, where you can walk through a natural, unspoilt area on boardwalks over a marsh near the source of the River Norges. These are nearby sights worth seeing, but not during this Nordic walking session.

We couldn’t quite follow the directions from Rue du Pré des Saules (perhaps we’re not very good at this sort of thing?).
But Flacey is a lovely little village and we had a pleasant stroll through fields and woods, accompanied by the delightful song of the birds

As we weren’t sure we’d have time to complete the whole route, we went the wrong way round so we could save the optional circular route for last. In the end, we’re glad we did it, as we would have missed the wash house and the horses.
It’s a shame the forest is spoiled by a motocross route. With all the tyre tracks, it’s a proper quagmire. Luckily for us, it was cold and the ground was frozen
Overall, a pleasant walk.

The only downside is that it’s impossible to cross the ford at Le Gueux at this time of year because the water level is too high.
You’ll need to follow the railway line to the bridge and rejoin the path after the bridge. Take care when trains are passing.

Hello PATAOUMEGNOL. Update,
A lovely route; just 20 minutes from DIJON and you’re right in the countryside.
The first circular loop takes you past a lovely meadow with horses.
Flacey is a lovely village
You need to be careful after point 5, as there are lots of small paths; don’t forget your compass or mobile phone (GPS)
Thank you for this route.
