A taste of Arbois

The Arbois circuit for an easy family walk to discover Arbois and its vineyards in the footsteps of Pasteur. It’s also a walk perfect for an aperitif:
- for other more challenging but equally impressive outings such as the Reculée des Planches or the Cascade des Tufs;
- for gourmet stops, in the heart of the Comté and Vin Jaune region, to discover the local cuisine.
This walk can be done as a post-lunch stroll, in which case it may prove longer and more challenging.

Description of the walk

Car park along the Promenade des Tiercelines

(S/E) At the bend from the Promenade, a few steps lead across to Rue Montfort. You’ll arrive at Place Morel by the statue. On your right, you can see the tower of Château Pécauld in the distance.

(1) Continue straight ahead along Rue Montfort until you reach Rue Saint-Roch. Turn left onto this street to walk alongside the Ruisseau Javel (which doesn’t usually smell of its name). Follow this stream to the junction with Rue du Petit Changin.

(2) Turn right, then immediately right again onto Chemin de Curon, which leads to the tower of the same name. A few metres before the tower, leave the main path to the left to reach the foot of the tower and follow the tree-lined path to a bench.

(3) From the bench, leave the tree-lined path and turn right to rejoin the main path, then follow it to the left. The path turns left and descends towards the tarmac road of Les Corvées, which you should take. Then turn left onto Rue de la Tour Canoz, which turns right, crosses Rue du Petit Changin and leads to the wash house.

(4) At the wash house, continue along Rue du Pré Vercel, leaving Rue de Changin on your left, and at the stop sign, turn left until you reach Rue du Cournot. Note an old mill on your left as you pass. Rue du Cournot joins Place Morel on the left, which you passed on the way out.

(1) Turn left onto Rue de Montfort to return to Promenade des Tiercelines (S/E).

The section of the route through the vineyards, including the climb up to the tower, is very pleasant, offering unobstructed views of the village of Arbois and its vineyards.
Please note, there is obviously no shade on this route!
The return journey down through the vineyards back to the village is less interesting.

In my opinion, this walk would be best combined with a historical tour through the heart of Arbois to explore the monuments and sites.

This is a pleasant walk that mainly winds its way through the vineyards. It offers a beautiful viewpoint and panoramic views of Arbois. The path is easy but requires trainers or walking boots.

A pleasant, leisurely walk, partly through the town and partly through the vineyards, with a gentle climb offering a unique view over part of Arbois and the surrounding area.
