Park in the car park at Saint-Just Church. There is a larger car park a few dozen metres to the right as you leave this car park.
(S/E) Cross the main road and take Rue du Prieuré opposite, then quickly turn right onto Rue du Montot and follow it until you leave Arbois.
(1) At a place called Paradis, take the small paved road on the left that climbs up into the vineyard. Continue straight ahead until you reach the imposing buildings of the Domaine de la Pinte.
(2) At this point, continue along a white road opposite, downhill. Ignore the three small roads that appear on the left.
(3) The path turns left and follow the sign for "Pupillin". Quite soon, in a large right-hand bend, take the left-hand path which climbs quite steeply.
(4) At the top, at the junction with a larger path, turn right at a right angle and climb until you cross another path that climbs quite steeply on the left.
(5) Take this road, which leads to the top of the hill. Halfway up, the track becomes less visible but continues straight ahead, emerging from the undergrowth into a meadow. Follow the meadow on the right and continue to the village of Pupillin. In the village, continue straight ahead to the Pupillin wine cellar on the main street.
(6) Turn left into this street and then, after about 100 metres, turn right slightly uphill before the Grapiot restaurant, following the red and white markings (GR®59) which lead to the Hermitage.
(7) The road gives way to a wide path on the left at a right angle, which winds down into the forest then climbs up on the right (don't miss the red and white signpost) and narrows to become a pretty path. This will take you to the entrance to the Allée du Roi de Rome, where a sign indicates the Chapelle de l'Ermitage at a right angle on the left.
(8) Follow this direction. Keep left at the next two intersections and continue straight ahead. After the farm, stop on the Ermitage plateau (read the information panels) for a drink (picnic tables) before the final descent.
Just after this plateau, stop at the chapel on the left (first built in 1492). Retrace your steps, continue on the left and then take the path on the right (Chemin devant l'Ermitage), which ends in a pretty passage between mossy walls to join the main road (D469).
(9) Take this main road to the left until you reach the first small square.
(10) Turn right at the entrance to this square, cross the pretty stone bridge over the Cuisance and stop in front of the old tower to read the explanations. Then, with the Saint-Just Church in sight, turn left into Rue de Bourgogne, continue right onto Rue Mercière, which leads back to the main street.
Turn left, cross the bridge, then climb the steps on the right in front of the church and head for the car park (S/E).
