Park in the car park at the Tourist Office.
(S/E) Head towards the forest behind the "L'Homme Projeté" monument, following the central path between the cross-country skiing chalet and the Ballons Comtois Nature Reserve sign (GR®5signposting).
(1) Enter the forest. At the first intersection (after the Forêt Domaniale du Ballon d'Alsace sign), turn right and follow the Chemin Colas signs.
(2) At the crossroads 30 metres further on, turn right again and follow the signs for Ballon d'Alsace 1h30 via the Colas Jumenterie 0h45 trail.
Follow the path for about 1 km. Take the opportunity to admire the Ballon de Servance on your left, which is characterised by its antenna at the summit.
You will arrive at a small clearing bordering the paved road. Follow the path that climbs to the right (signposted: Jumenterie).
Climb this fairly steep section for about 200 m until you reach the cow pasture, which you then enter.
Cross the field and follow the road through the field until you reach the building opposite you (the Jumenterie).
(3) Cross the road, pass in front of the Jumenterie building and follow it on the right, taking the path that climbs uphill (signposted Sommet du Ballon).
You will arrive at a small chalet (the sign is on the left-hand side). Here you can enjoy a picnic table and the company of Vosges cows (depending on the season).
With your back to the picnic table, take the path uphill that passes under the ski lift.
Leave the cow park by following the path, then continue for about 600 metres through the forest and blueberry bushes.
When you reach a clearing, follow the path and walk along the meadow on your right.
Depending on the weather and season, you may be able to admire horses and a clear view of the Belfort area.
(4) Turn left and climb up to the statue of Joan of Arc.
(5) Continue until you reach the Virgin of the Balloon and the orientation table.
(6) Begin the short descent via the Auberge du Ballon d'Alsace.
(7) Take the road on the right, cross the Savoureuse (spring on the right 200m away) to reach the car park where you started (S/E).
