Departure from the Démineurs car park at the Col du Ballon d'Alsace on the D465.

(S/E) From the car park, cross the road and climb the discovery trail towards the summit.
(1) After passing the statue of Joan of Arc (beautiful view of the Moselle valley), continue right on the discovery trail (extensive view of the Vosges ridges). It runs along the edge of the steep side of the summit.
(2) From the orientation table: immense circular panorama of the Alsace plain to the Jura mountains and the peaks of the Swiss Alps.
Return to the statue of the Virgin Mary, then descend to the farmhouse inn.
(3) Continue along the thatched roof, cross it completely and climb the path towards a grove at the top of the Mannheimer ski slope, then descend it. At the bottom on the left: the Trou de la Chaudière, with a beautiful view of the summit of the Ballon and the Interalfeld glacial cirque. At the foot of the ski lift, turn right.
(4) The route crosses the D465 in front of the La Chaumière restaurant. Opposite, a path descends steeply. Follow it for about 100 metres, then turn right. The path, which is fairly flat at first, descends and joins a forest track, which you must cross.
Continue downhill on a stony path, which leads to the Étang du Petit-Haut.
(4) Follow the dyke, then turn left and descend along the Savoureuse river via the waterfall trail (Rummel viewpoint).
(6) Turn right when you reach the forest path and continue to the Étang des Roseaux
(7) Follow the dyke and continue along the forest path until the next fork.
(8) Turn left, pass the ridge and descend to the Refuge de la Grande-Goutte (open, unmanned),
(9) From there, climb back up until you reach the Grande trails.GR®7andGR®59hike and return to the Démineurs car park (S/E).
