Description of the walk

Departure from Plouay: Plouay bus station, Rue Hélène le Chaton. Departure sign on site.

Yellow markings

(S/E) With the cemetery behind you, walk up Rue Hélène le Chaton, which turns left. Turn right, then straight ahead (go around the roundabout on the right) to enter the Domaine de Manehouarn.

(1) Continue straight ahead and left towards the courtyard. Keep going until you reach the château.

(2) Go around the castle on the right. At the lodges, go down to the right towards the ponds. Turn right after the small pond, then left and follow the large pond on the right.

(3) At the end, turn right, then keep left at the fork.

(4) Continue to the left and exit the woods. At the end, turn right and rejoin the road.

(5) Turn right and follow the road for about 300 metres.

(6) Cross carefully at the exit of the estate to reach the Coët Fao woods. Follow the path, turn left at the fork, then right about 50 metres further on to cross the Kerscoulic stream and arrive at the old Morbihan railway line (Plouay-Gourin line).

(7) Go straight ahead and climb the firebreak path. Follow it, ignoring the forks and keeping in the same direction. At the Croix de Plouay crossroads, continue straight ahead to the old windmill site.

(8) Head towards the road and, just before you reach it, turn right to follow the path that leads back into the Coët Fao woods. Turn left, then continue straight ahead on the main path, on the edge of the housing estates. You will reach Rue Neuve.

(9) Turn right and continue for about 100 metres. Cross carefully and continue straight ahead between the housing estates. You will reach Rue Xavier Grall.

(10) Make a short first turn left then right to rejoin the path between the housing estates. At the crossroads, turn left to reach Rue de Kerveline.

(11) Turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach No. 27 Rue des Alliés.

(12) Cross over and head to the Fontaine Saint-Ouen site. Cross the footbridge and follow the path that leads to the Bécherel neighbourhood. Turn left after the wash house, then right, passing in front of the Oratoire Notre-Dame de Bécherel. Head to the street of the same name.

(13) Cross Rue de Bécherel at the pedestrian crossing, then take the path on the left that runs alongside the street. Ignore a street on the right, then turn right about 150 metres further on.

(14) Cross the road at Kerandor and follow the path opposite along the stream to reach Route de Calan.

(15) Turn right, then left about 50 metres further on. Follow the markings in the woods, cross the footbridge and turn left, parallel to the stream. As you approach the street, turn right, then left onto the path at the bottom of the embankment. At the end, turn left to reach the Grotte de Lourdes: please be discreet and respect those who are praying.

(16) Walk past the grotto on the right and continue straight ahead along the stream. At the Lorient road, take the safe path on the left to the roundabout. Go around it on the left, join the car park on the right and turn right to join the departmental road on the right.

(17) Cross the D769b with caution. Continue straight ahead, then turn left after the footbridge. At the road, turn left to see the Roman bridge.

(18) Turn back and enter the woods via the path to the left of the embankment. Follow the path, which turns left then right, following the yellow markings. Leave the woods and you will arrive at Rue de Kerfratel.

(19) Cross Rue de Kerfratel, passing close to the Lann Justice cross, and continue along the street of the same name. At the roundabout, turn left towards Kerspern. At the end, turn left, then right until you reach a fork on Rue Saint-Sauveur.

(20) Turn left between the houses, then take the streets on the right and left. Cross over the D 769 and reach the edge of the woods.

(21) Enter the woods on the left after the Stang Nivinen Cross. Followthe yellow-marked path that goes straight ahead before turning left, then right. Go down the sloping path and turn right at the large driveway. At the next intersection, turn left, then right to reach the water treatment plant. In winter, take the path on the right to avoid the muddy banks of the Ruisseau du Saint-Sauveur.

(22) Reach the stream on the right by passing along the fence. Continue along the Saint-Sauveur. At the fountain of the same name, follow the path along the embankment to reach the Chapel of Saint-Sauveur.

(23) Take the time to explore the chapel, then go up the road on the right. On the hill, take the path on the right, then immediately turn left to continue through the woods along the embankment and arrive at Ty Narroz.

(24) Leave the woods on the left and join the protected path opposite. Cross after the houses and continue to the right into the woods, then along the wide path to the road and the old railway line.

(25) Turn right onto the old Morbihan railway line from Plouay to Lorient (1906-1947). Pass under the D769, then turn left at Kergarnic to reach Manehouarn Park.

(26) Follow the protected path on the left and cross at the pedestrian crossing. Continue right into the park and turn left before the car park, then immediately right. At the end, cross the second car park and continue to the right. Continue to the right, then straight ahead along Rue de Manehouarn, passing the schools and football pitches. Before the roundabout, take the pavement on the left and go down Rue du Général de Gaulle. Pass under the porch of the town hall on the left, then straight ahead to the start (S/E).
