Tour of the Arudy glacial valley

Head to Arudy and park on Rue Saint-Michel or Place du Foirail.

(S/E) Head towards the church via Place du Foirail, passing the town hall.

(1) Turn left, then right into Rue Lacazette, follow Rue Tilhou, then Rue du Pont de Germe until you reach the D920 and cross the bridge over the Gave d’Ossau.

(2) Turn left, continue along the small road, turning right. At the bend, carry straight on along a path that climbs up to a plateau (beautiful view of Béarn and the Basque Country).

(3) Turn right, pass under the power lines and after 300 m, head due north down to the junction with the GR®78.

(4) Turn right then left onto this path. At a place called Teberne, turn right towards the D92O, cross it carefully and follow it back up, passing the Buzy Dolmen. Continue to the junction with the D232.

(5) Turn left, cross over the old railway line (now a cycle path), and turn left again onto a path that leads to a road.

(6) Follow this small road which leads to Bescat church (beautiful view).

(7) Take the steps to go round the village from above, follow the street and leave it for a path leading up to the ridge. Descend onto a track.

(8) Turn right and follow the track which, as you approach Sévignac-Meyracq, turns into a road.

(9) Cross the D934 carefully and continue along the Route de Sainte-Colome. Pass the GR®78 on your right.

(10) Leave the D232, turn left to climb a track that joins the ridge and follow it. Pass the antennas and continue south.

(11) Ignore the yellow markings heading off to the right and continue across the grass towards the geological sign, then the three crosses. Descend to the right, pass a gate and rejoin the yellow markings. Descend to the corner of the church and walk past the war memorial.

(12) Head down Chemin de Coungues and take a short stretch of road (Chemin des Arruets).

(13) Leave the road and take a path that descends to the D934. Follow it to the left towards Louvie-Juzon and pass the turn-off for La Forestière.

(14) Leave the D934, turn left onto a path between two fences, then turn right and enter Louvie-Juzon via a housing estate.

(15) Turn right, pass in front of the church, cross the bridge over the Gave d'Ossau.

(16) Turn right onto the path running alongside the river.

(17) Leave the banks of the Gave d'Ossau and head slightly uphill to the left along a track that joins Rue du Tennis.

(18) Follow it to the left and emerge onto Rue Saint-Michel. Turn right and head back to the car park (S/E).
