Tour of Mont Ouzon

This is a varied and wild hike, a great opportunity to breathe in the pure mountain air while discovering the flora of the mountain pastures. Along the trail, admire the panoramic view of the Vallée d'Aulps and Lake Geneva.

An additional section, described in the practical information, allows you to climb to the summit of Mont Ouzon, where you can enjoy a 360° view of the Chablais, the Mont Blanc range, the Swiss peaks and Lake Geneva.

Description of the walk

Departure from the Col du Corbier car park.

(S/E) Cross the access road to the pass (D32) and go up Route de l'Arblay. Cross a dead end on the left.

(1) When the road turns right at a hairpin bend, continue straight ahead on a forest track.

(2) Pass the hamlet of Arblay and continue along a path. Further on, descend in switchbacks to the Pas de l'Ours.

(3) Turn right onto a tricky passage that descends via secure steps to the Tire valley.

(4) Cross the stream and climb north-west up an open ridge from where you can see the entire Vallée d'Aulps and Mont Blanc.

(5) Turn right and head north-northeast (view of Lake Geneva). Take several tricky passages equipped with chains. Finally, when the view clears, you will arrive at a fork.

(6) Take the path that climbs to the right towards the Col de Nicodex. Make a hairpin turn to the right, then one to the left. Continue north-east to reach the Col de Nicodex (you can stop at the chalets just below, where there is drinking water in summer).

(7) Take the path that branches off to the right towards Col de Plan Champ. You will arrive at the sign for "Les Vannées".

(8) Then turn right, heading south, and continue climbing towards the Col de Plan Champ. Leave the Chalet d'Ouzon behind on your left and reach an intersection.

(9) Take the track on the right that climbs towards Col de Plan Champ. After a few bends, you will reach the pass.

(10) Take the track that heads south-east, slightly downhill. Soon turn right with the track and descend south-west, more steeply, to the Chalets d'Ouzon.

(11) Continue down the track. Pass two chalets, enter the forest and descend steeply. Further down, take a hairpin bend to the right, then one to the left. Continue straight ahead until you reach a metal staircase on the left.

(12) Go down the stairs. At the bottom, cross the D32 and return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Additional information for reaching the summit of Mont Ouzon
At the Col de Plan Champ (10), follow the Mont Ouzon hike from its starting point (3). Allow for an additional 200 m of elevation gain and a good hour for the round trip (not including the break at the summit, which offers a superb 360° panorama).

Worth a visit

  • Summit of Mont Ouzon (off the route).
  • Pointe de Tréchauffé (starting from another location).
  • Col de Nicodex (7).

A very beautiful hike, very varied, but requiring a sure foot, especially to reach the summit.
There is a cable-assisted section at the summit which is fairly easy to climb but more difficult to descend.
